Ortiz is too old for a younger, faster, and skilled fighter like Usyk. Just maintaining the pace with Usyk would tire Ortiz at this stage and Usyk will dominate in the late rounds.

He's got to get through AJ first.

I'm on record saying AJ beats Uskykk. He can't do any worse then the 1st fight.

The policy will not go into effect until 2023, but when it happens, it will revolutionize the sport.

Starting in 2023, if you hold the WBC title and the title of another organization, instead of having to juggle two different mandatories, the mandatories will be ordered to fight each other to create a unified mandatory. This accomplishes a few things. #1 - The unified champion still only has one mandatory even though he has more than one belt. #2 - The champion can no longer ditch one belt to duck a difficult mandatory and then just hide behind the other belt. Since the winner of the unified mandatory bout will now be mandatory to both belts, the champion could only duck the mandatory by ditching both belts, leaving him with no belt to hide behind. Which he won't want to do, so he'll be forced to face the mandatory. #3 - This will create mandatories that the public actually knows and cares about as the winner of a fight between the WBC mandatory and the other mandatory will get a lot of attention and result in a unified mandatory the public will be very excited to see face the unified champion.
I recently posted something about mandatory unification bouts but was reminded that no such thing currently exists. It would be good for the sport if the policy is implemented.

I'm not sure why the newly crowned unified champion of the world needs to fight a senior citizen who has never been a champion.

To be clear, what's being instituted in 2023 is that mandatories from different organizations will have to fight each other to become mandatory of both organizations in order to get their shot at a unified champion.

So it's not that champions will be forced to unify, it's that mandatories to a unified champion will have to fight each other.

Ok, let's make it simple. I'll bet you $100,000 that I came up with the idea for unified mandatories. We'll draw up a simple contract, sign NDAs, and have our funds held in escrow. Then we'll meet in person and I will have you watch me log in to my email account and I will show you the emails from the WBC thanking me for the idea and inviting me to dinner.

If you think I'm making everything up, this is an easy $100,000 in your pocket. I'm just pretending right? So take the cash. Easy win for you.
