The second point answers the first point. The facts are Canelo IS the the star and he CAN choose who he wants to fight, wether people like it or not.Everyone is chasing him and he can't fight them all. So if someone really wants it, they have to work out what floats Canelos boat and bring that to the table for him. And it ain't cash, because he's the draw, not the other guys. I'm not a Canelo fan. I'd much prefer he fought Benavidez. But he has nothing Canelo wants, that's just obvious.

Why is Makabu less deserving? Because he came out of left field and nobody seen it coming? Benavidez is probably the most exciting fight. I'd rather see that fight. But Benavidez still has nothing Canelo wants. Wether we like it or not, that's the fact of it. Makabu does have something he wants. A world title in a 5th weight class. I can respect that. Hes chasing legacy. It's up to Benavidez to become relevant in Canelos world, not ours.

If I was Canelo I would have fought David at 22…Benavidez is not going to lose to anyone in the next three years outside of Alvarez so if Canelo thinks fighting a 27-28 year old Benavidez is a good idea I disagree.

I like Benavidez and think he poses a real threat to Canelo.

But he screwed himself, why didn't he unify belts at 168 before Canelo did it? Instead he was off doing ******* and being undisciplined and losing his belt on the scales.

At this point he should just put in work until he is ordered to be the mando to one of Canelo's belts.

I don’t feel like Benavidez is that dangerous for Canelo. Actually I think he’s a better style matchup than either BJS or Plant. He’s slower and comes to you.

Canelo vs a Cruiser champ is actually the sort of sideshow I don’t mind seeing in boxing.

I don’t know, maybe it’s because he’s already been Tko’d twice and the other guys I’ve mentioned haven’t lost yet. Maybe it’s because since he was easily dispatched by bellew, he beat 3 guys with losing records and a couple of other nobodies.

You can use the chasing titles argument all you want but if he’s doing that and not facing better quality opposition, I don’t care to see it. Should we be raving about Broner and his 4 titles in 4 weight classes or should we be more impressed with say someone like Spence who in 1 weight class faced Brook, Porter, Danny Garcia and is about to face Ugas (although he really should face Crawford). Canelo left mw with good fights still on the table, he went to 175 and left quickly with 2 quality champions on the table, he went through the guys at 168 but left the most dangerous one on the table who never really lost his title that canelo walks around with now. I will say that Benavidez screwed himself by missing weight, but I don’t recall canelo being stripped when he couldn’t make 154 and asked for a last min catchweight of 155 on more than one occasion, and I don’t recall him facing any significant penalty from the wbc for failing a vada test. He was actually given a title shot immediately after.

Time will tell…but whoever beats Benavidez will have to go thru hell to do it-especially if he is 28.
