I miss Tuesday Night and Friday Night Fights

Even though we have FOX, Showtime, DAZN and ESPN airing fights, I miss the days of Tuesday and Friday Night fights. The fact there was a weekly card with a few competitive matchups typically involving fighters who would never get national television coverage.

Fights like Pemberton/Shieka, Hilton/Oullett, Ward/Augustus, Rosenblatt/Paz, Elbiali/Pascal, Spina/Manfredo and you had so many great regional fighters: Ray Sucre Oliveira, Scotty Olson, Julian Letterlough, JC Candelo, Jeremy Williams, Jimmy Thunder, etc.

Anyone have a favorite fight or fighter from those fight series? Did the UK have anything similar?

Omar Weis, white Latino, beat up Hector Camacho junior. Takumbo alajide the trumpet player had some power in both hands. Back when Juan Diaz - lavka sim was a ppv. Fights from the playboy mansion. Heck Billy Irwin was on there a couple of times.,. Not to drown out THE IN STUDIO work from max and Brian Kenny. That was a nice segment with Jameel mccline and Kirk Johnson showed up during old interview. Also cool when buddy McGirt flashed his boxing IQ from being Arturo Gatti s (rip) trainer. Rest in peace to the Tuesday night fight Scott LeDoux as well!

Yea man,I miss Teddy and Friday night fights. Met him here locally for a couple of them.Guy was as humble and personable as can be....Tessitore was a different story, dudes a prick. Was hoping when PBC launched that they would venture into a mid week series with thier whole "bringing boxing back to free tv" motto...but no dice unfortunately. Although they did attempt a brief lived thursday or Tuesday series didn't they?

I think the days of teddy went away after he "stuck up for Manny Pacquiao" in Jeff horn loss. People just don't see how endearing he can be to the casuals. Imo he shoulda been around more fights. It's funny that you mention it, but teddy in his book/ novel calls Joe tessitore a "always a gentleman" lol but myself sure can't stand him either!

Oh man, you hit so many good ones with this post. I loved Omar Weis, he was a tough but skilled boxer. He lit up Camacho, Jr. I went to one of those ESPN cards when Camacho, Jr. fought Bryon Mackie. It was a terrible card but still a blast to watch in person.

I always thought Tokunbo Olajide could have gone further, he kind of just disappeared. He did have some pop.

Lavka Sim and Billy Irwin are two other names I forgot about. Lastlyz great shout out to the Fighting Frenchman Scott Ledoux. He was a great fill-in commentator, he was humble and funny.

Yeah seems like those gritty east coast crossroad/rivalry fights are a missing element. FNF did those well. UK does the domestic fights better these days it sees, I can get into those even from here. It can still be a local thing...you have prove you the best guy in your gym, city, territory before you can say you're the best in the world,

dressed down production, small/medium sized venues. Some of these dudes need to already be in the ring when TV comes back from commercial, they don't all get a televised ring walk or packaged promo...30 secs at most and maybe a few words prefight and afterward. I'll find out who they are in the ring

Sean O'Grady from TNF, one of my favorite commentators, I learned a lot from him as a real young fan

I liked the brief stint Ring City had this last year, there were some good fights I thought.

Brandon Adams KO of unbeaten Bohachuk
              Baez brothers
              Charles Conwell
Angel Fierro TKO of Alberto Machado
they had some Puerto Rican prospect who got a KO
              Tanajara

It's always interesting to hear people's personal experiences dealing with some of the notables in the sport. Crazy about Tessitore.

I've had opportunities to have conversations with Floyd Mayweather, Jr and Marvis Frazier. Both were very nice and polite. Saw Malignaggi at a fight and he was also a decent guy.

I’d say Golota vs Pahua . Kind of hard to forget when someone is sticking their teeth in someone’s neck with the other guy wearing White trunks covered in blood .

The rest Is vague I remember a lot of prospects like Pazienza and a few Irish guys I can’t remember the names off hand , Camacho had a few fights to on it .

Chris Byrd vs The Herbrew Hammer Tim Puller was funny to, this guy had a tweety bird beating it up in his interview and Byrd cleaned his clock .

Says Roger Clemens ringside to teddy: "man Irwin be taking a lot of heavy shots from Diaz, teddy can you train me?" Teddy:" yeah pack your bags and come to New York" lol. As they both watched an amazing one sided beat down from Juan Diaz whooping on Billy the kid. My uncle watched that fight with me, he said "I'd just like to see Billy turn it around and knock out the other fella just for the heck of it. " Back when our buddy up the road had satelitte around the Vitali and wlad (first time around for Vitali anyway) era. Didn't miss a fight starting with toney- Holyfield. What a semi golden age for heavys under don King like or non alike. Me uncle would buy a case of beer everytime up there, he was pissed if the fight wouldn't show!!! Lol, good times
