Comments Thread For: Arum: Crawford Isn't PPV Draw, We've Lost Money On Every Fight

Terence Crawford appears to already have one foot out of the Top Rank Boxing ring. The three-division champion is contractually free to pursue future fights with any outfit he chooses now that his contract with Bob Arum's company has expired.

I, for one, cannot understand the purpose of promoter if he relies on the fighter to promote himself and his fights.

Someone has to front the money and take care of all the behind the scenes details. Hence the purpose of a promoter

Top Rank couldn't get him the fights he wanted most; Pac and Spence. He re-signed with Top Rank because he was certain he would get the Pac fight as promised.

Crawford should definitely venture out and test the waters to see what's best for his career at this point. Nothing bad to say about Top Rank, but this seems to occur with all of their top fighters.

Same thing is happening right now to Shakur Stevenson trying to to get the fight with his Top Rank stablemate Oscar Valdez.

Well that's probably because you've never managed or coordinated an event. It isn't something Crawford can just pick up and do himself. I'd imagine you'd have to have the right connections too. There likely lawyers involved, contracts with venues, television, social media, etc... There is lots that goes on before Crawford enters that ring.

Imagine promoting an artist that simply refuses to promote themselves

1, Top Rank wrote up the contract that pays Crawford as much as they do.

                2. Crawford is boring but Arum is his promoter, if he can't sell then Arum needs to take some of the blame.

Time for Crawford to move up in weight just the way Canelo and Pacman did to become world famous. Challenging bigger guys is sure fame!
