I can't argue with what you are saying but maybe the issue I have is that I feel Golovkin is singled out for criticism when in truth this is part of boxing. Boxers "bark" to get attention and push for a fight they think they can win and boxers who have a belt, or something to protect (financial pull, Like Tank) resist the high risk/low reward fights. Lets not also forget that Lara nearly derailed Canelo's ascent [ and all the moolah that has since been generated], so there was precedent for HBO to protect their investment.

Floyd didn't fancy Thurman. Thurman didn't fancy Spence. Spence doesn't fancy Ennis and thats all at the same weight.
Nobody calling out Regis at JWW.
Nobody calling out Beterbiev at LHW and he has 2 belts.
Nobody mentions Hgrovic at HW.
Maybe the difference with Golovkin is that a lot of fans resent the fact that a non US fighter got a major promotional push (hype) when in their estimation there were more deserving American candidates. Apart from the apparent racial biases on this forum there are also patriotic biases; Golovkin is from a country 90% people never heard of. I'm not saying any of that is right, that's just what I see. The first fighters I really rooted for were Hagler after he destroyed Minter and Herol Graham. But I did root for Golovkin. Here was a monster who was very skillful and seemingly fearless (plus MW is one of my favourite divisions - reference Hagler and Graham.) and a KO artist. The guys he were knocking out were the best of the MW division at that time - it was a weak division at that time - and he did what he was supposed to do - get em out of there. For the record I'm rooting for Ortiz (less) and Ennis (more) for the same reasons.
Anyways, good discussing.
