Comments Thread For: Doctor: Teofimo Lopez 'Lucky He's Not Dead' Due To Breathing Issue Before, After Kambosos Bout

I am still a fan of Teofimo. While he didn't look right to me, I thought he had over trained and would get a 2nd wind.
George in the 10th round was dead man walking and it's unlike Teofimo not to finish him.
I wasn't upset he lost only because I greatly disliked his fathers antics used against George's team.
Looking forward to his ring return. Hopefully with take no prisoners mentality and leaving the diva acts to his wife.Comment

He definitely wasn’t that guy who fought Lomachenko. For a small fast twitch fighter he was obviously sluggish in this fight…… If these credible doctors have this to say, I thoroughly believe my eyes weren’t deceiving me. ….The capable fighter that beat Lomachenko could have certainly put up a much much better fight against Kambosos. It’s just his big mouth that makes him a well deserved target .lol. It’s no wonder he was the betting favorite…but that “mouth” though.
The cold hard truth is that Kambosos is a better boxer than Lopez. Lopez has that fast-twitch muscle and athleticism, but George is the more skilled boxer, and he out boxed Lopez. It’s really that simple.
No more excuses for Lopez because it takes away from the George who is that good. People have been sleeping on this guy. It now makes sense to me why Manny used him so much in training camp. It didn’t before but now it does.Comment

If the doctors are saying it's true I'll believe them over the WebMD experts on this forum. Regardless he lost and it was his fault for going into the ring injured in the first place especially while struggling to make weight. My biggest issue is why was he smoking hookah during his training camp especially as an asthmatic.Comment

The doctor's second diagnosis should have concluded....Teo ain't nowhere near as good as he thinks he is. If Tank hits him in the chest he will definitely die!Comment

Id like to speak to those docs... There are a lot of things that should be verified... Im on the fence as to whether it is possible. I remember from when I fought, when your oxygen was dwindling, I mean I don't know if a person can overcome that...Put a choke on someone the wrong way where they are struggling, and you get a reflexive reaction to what is happening, your body says "help!" You can maybe overcome the panic...
Shannon Briggs fought with asthma, other fighters...but he is claiming more than that. Here are some thngs that come to mind:
1. A lot of fighters who grew up in NYC were exposed to conditions that cause asthma, so fighters do develop it in the area.
2. I would not expect doctors to catch that in their routine physicals
3. Its hard to imagine Lopez being able to fight through that.
4. Before I even think what Lopez did, I would like to establish IF he could have done as claimed...
It would be nice to talk to the doctors, for sure, because this sounds like another PR piece by Kriegel for Teofimo. He's the one that broke the story that Teofimo had an injured toe, which needed surgery, after the Loma fight. His broken toe that was mysteriously not there when Teofimo was doing backflips. And again we have Kriegel breaking the story of Teofimo's illness. Kriegel is coming off like Lopez's PR person. He never writes a story critical of Lopez. It makes me wonder about ESPN's relationship with Lopez. I think ESPN has a lot of money invested in him, so this is damage control. That's what it seems like to me.
And yeah, oxygen is probably the most important element boxing. The worse thing that can happen to a fighter is gassing out. I lost a fight because I gassed by the end of the third round. The ref thought I was injured after taking a shot because of my body language (I assume). But the shot didn't even phase me really; I had punched myself out and was waiting for the round to end. I always remember that because I realized how important conditioning is and that the worst thing that can happen to a fighter is getting tired. I don't think there's anything more detrimental.
And I agree completely that I can't see Lopez fighting through that. Paul Felder from the UFC fought with a collapsed lung but that happened at the end of the fight, I believe. I think it happened at the very end, that a piece of his lung came off. As much as I'd like to believe Lopez, he's human after all, and there's no way he could have fought with that condition. I think it's something that occurred at the end of the fight or afterward. The kid is not superman.
As an aside, I think the worst injury I ever heard of someone playing through was a busted spleen. Chris Sims of TampaBay Buccaneers played through a busted spleen, so there are instances of superhumanism, but like you said, I can't imagine Lopez fighting like that and then doing backflips afterward.Comment
