This rivalry has been a mess since the beginning. First Canelo dragged out facing Ggg for nearly 2 yrs while dropping a title to avoid him, then got a gift of a draw when the fight finally happened, then Canelo got caught cheating which caused a cancellation of the rematch, then there was s controversial win for canelo in the rematch. From that point on, Canelo was content to not clear up any controversy as most of the greats prefer to do and instead take on lesser opposition, while Ggg has been content to do next to nothing except get older.

Well you beat him in first fight but didn't get decision. 2 Nd fight I thought GGG done enough but if I watched again I might have draw even.

A good way to promote this fight would be for GGG to fight David Benavidez! That would make Charlo look like a punk, for not doing it first, and it would definitely make Canelo look like a p**sy if GGG won, and Canelo still doesn't want to fight! However Dervy, Szeremeta, and Murata is not impressive!

There's no way canelo didn't win the second fight?

I respect both men. 2 great fighters that had 2 great fights. In MY opinion GGG won the 1st fight convincingly and the 2nd was closer but I still feel GGG did enough to win. I'd love to see the trilogy fight but let's be honest here, GGG will be 40 yrs old when they fight. I think it should've happened within a year of the 2nd fight. Still think it will go 12. Who knows the outcome without a K/O. I hate that my favorite sport is so damn corrupt. Look at the female judges card from the 1st fight. She should NEVER judge anything again.

The last 3 rounds of GGG V Canelo 2 you could see in Canelos eyes he was done fighting GGG. Like Chong Li Canelo is sweet to the gut, but his short stature and preference for taller fighters prevents anyone from touching him there.

At 40 though an inactive, against a media machine in Canelo, you really have to KO him just to get a draw. Won't happen.

I'm actually happy that GGG has made a lot of cash and doesn't let himself come back at an older age out of desperation for money (a bit like Margarito vs Cotto II).
GGG had two chances to beat him. He couldn’t do that.

Your excuses for him won’t get penciled into any official stats, not even Boxrec.

Wish this debate would end now tbf no point even if they did ever fight again and Canelo knocked him spark out it would mean nothing whatsoever GGG is too old to keep up now imo. They are 1 - 1 to me both great fighters.

GGG fought Canelo differently than anyone else he faced. GGG was brutally destroying fighters with ease. Wade, 2nd round. Vanes, 2nd round. Rolls, 4th round TKO. Szeremeta, 7th round. These types of performances is what led him to be the favorite against Canelo, as far as odds go. GGG fans claimed Canelo will get destroyed in under 6 rounds.

That was really the majority of forum’s vote. GGG by TKO.

In the first fight, Canelo outlanded GGG in power punches in 7 rounds. If some fans thought that Draw was a robbery, it would have been interesting to see what they would have say if Canelo got the nod.

In the second fight, Canelo outlanded GGG in power punches in 9 rounds.

In the rematch, GGG put way to much stock on the jab. He outjabbed Canelo, good for him. But when your opponent is landing the most telling blows, in more rounds, you can’t win by just jabbing.

GGG advertised himself as fighting “Mexican style”, make it war.

What happened instead was that GGG was on the backfoot, jabbing, occasionally throwing power punches. Abel Sanchez, post fight, even announced that GGG did not follow the gameplan, that he was supposed to come forward and throw more power punches. Abel also gave credit to Canelo for the win and said (paraphrasing) “we can’t complain about every decision.” Abel then got fired.

GGG’s secret for a third fight better involve coming forward and throwing more power punches. Because, versus the best MW fighters, Canelo, Jacobs, Derevyanchenko, GGG didn’t look good.
