Because it's much less risky than giving the Mexican fans the fights they want. Andrade, Charlo brothers, Lara rematch, Benavidez. They want Canelo to take the challenge from all these great fighters who have been calling him out but he won't fight a single one of them. Just keeps taking easy fights.

The ultra casuals that a huge star like Canelo attracts (not saying his fans are casuals, just that a huge fan base is going to have a larger number of them) would probably pick a Paul brother or some nonsense. Same thing would probably happen to guys like Floyd or Manny years ago if YouTube fighters were around. Next would probably be GGG because people don’t realize he’s 40 in April and has slipped massively.
