This helps Canelo leverage the cost of fighting the other challengers. The more options he can say he is the less he will say he is willing to pay. The opponents have to stick together to bring the price up or on the other hand one of them will take their shot at the price offered or close to it. Jumping all the way to cruiser is interesting enough on paper and intrigue that it would let him bypass guys like Bivol and especially Beterbiev who is not young. It’s not a bad power move. It sells well. He already took a 175lb belt so he can justify a jump to cruiser. I want to see him fight Beterbiev of course. It’s a tough fight, but I think Canelo at this point is not going to be the underdog even if it’s close at the books. Benevidez is a tougher fight than his physique let’s on, but that’s hard to market to the masses. I’d like to see a mass of online polls to really see who the fans want to see next. Canelo will do what he wants cause he is the Pope, and that’s boxing. He has achieved a skill level where a lucky huge shot might be the only way imagining him losing. Who has that sort of power and willingness?
