Canelo had an impressive win and did it very well. He's definitely #1 P4P now. BUT....this fight was very noticeable in despite Canelo's improvements, I have a feeling that his future opponents will start working on exposing the below flaws more and his decline will start to show. This was Canelo's toughest fight since GGG2

1) Canelo still has no answer for the committed jab. Even with his excellent head movement, he seemed to get hit with it often.
2) He gets sloppy when he gets frustrated. There were moments in the fight that Caleb was able to counter and time him due to this. This isn't a coincidence as this is the first time in a long while Canelo didn't look as confident as usual in between rounds.
3) While he's become quite badass applying pressure and coming forward, he's comprised this for not being able to fight on the backfoot compared to earlier in his career.
4) He doesn't handle activity well. When Caleb was active and dictated the pace, he won those rounds by preventing Canelo from getting off. Being too patient and relying on the opponent wearing down can backfire


He doesn't have to worry about that for awhile though

Canelo said himself in the post fight press conf that he was frustrated in the first half of the fight and thanked his team for making him stick to the game plan btw rounds Canelo struggled last night.

Very true! Everyone is falling in love with Canelo's KO but they're ignoring how tough a fight this actually was for him. The fact he said he needs to take half a year off after this is proof of how grueling it was(not taking credit away from his win)

Canelo had trouble scoring through Plant's shoulder roll defense. He himself acknowledged that things got more difficult than expected.

Why does that upset you so much?

He was eventually able to wear Plant down and break through and get the win, which in the end is all that matters. But that isn't going to stop me from speaking the truth about how I thought the fight went. I'm a big Canelo fan but why should I hold my tongue about that, what's wrong with you?

Plant has elite skills but he's somehow fragile. It doesn't allow him to take risk versus a killer Mike Nelo. He looked like Gatti after the Uzi fight and Nelo stopped him quickly.

Canelo is pretty beatable.

Plant proved it. Plant did very well but he doesn't have enough power and/or chin so Canelo walked through him and stopped him.

Smith, Fielding, Yildeim, Saunders are not elite.

Canelo is fine because overall 168 is average.

Now he eats punches to get inside or look for the one big left. Maybe it was because he knew that Plant couldnt hurt him, so he just absorbed the punches anyway; but I could see some concern with him becoming someone who chases the KO too much and forgets his other skills.

I definitely can see this as hes been taking more and more shots since he’s gotten more KO’s. Reminds me of Crawford and Davis a bit in they got excellent skills but aren’t using them like they use to and just going for the KO taking unnecessary shots but it’s the win that matters at the end of the day

Floyd beat Canelo because the latter had never fought an African-American with that style before. He never got hurt in that fight and Floyd basically ran and hugged the last rounds, trying not to engage. Canelo was also weight-drained, a huge ring, and was nervous because of the big event. Floyd never gave him a rematch. JL Castillo, Maidana, Oscar DLH, Pacquiao all were controversial wins, never KOing anyone of importance and the ref always letting Floyd hug 200 times in a fight. Anyone can be " undefeated" like that. Plant proved that Canelo is invincible, thatīs it. Hater.

Plant's management team should be congratulated. They took a pretty ordinary fighter, got him to 21 wins without a loss with some clever matchmaking, and even got him one of the paper titles. Once there they made sure he didn't fight anybody with a chance of beating him. So "undefeated, SMW Champ" sounds great and gets Caleb a 10 million dollar payday. Gotta love it.

Plant is good at running away and throwing the lightest pooty touches in boxing history. Most of the time Plant does not look like he is throwing a punch looks like he is playing tag.

Judging by your avatar, you are a kid who knows nothing about boxing. 1- JC Chavez had a granite chin like Canelo, and donīt care about receiving a jab, itīs part of a strategy to hit back. 2- He was never frustrated, his game plan and prediction were spot on, while Plant just jabbed weakly and pot shotted, afraid to engage. 3- he fights defensively when necessary, not against a runner-pillow fisted guy like Plant, dummy. He wants the fans to see a fight, not to run. 4- Caleb was never active he just threw weak combos here and there from miles away, hitting the gloves with no power. Benavidez KOs Plant too......you are a hater, period. Who is the perfect boxer according to you???
