I’m not saying they’re necessarily better opposition but they tested Teofimo, gave him rounds, gave him valuable experience. Ennis hasn’t had any of that yet.

Not at all. Berlanga is trash. Ennis is legit but you can’t buy experience. Every fight he’s ever had, he’s had his own way. You’re not gonna get that with a Shawn Porter or an Ugas. Ennis needs to be matched properly before they chuck him in the deep end.

I think he can beat damaged goods Spence right now.

I don’t think it’s a bad thing. He’s only 24 and if he has to fight in final eliminators to mandatory positions, it should give him suitable fights to let him bridge the gap between who’s he’s fighting now and the champions, and there is a big difference.

He might have the talent to compete with top fighters, but experience counts for a lot and comes into play at that level. Why rush him a few fights too early, with the real possibility he comes unstuck? Boxing history tells us jumping up too many levels never usually ends well. There’s still a couple of levels between where he’s been and the top fighters. In a year or so, he can bridge that gap properly and be better prepared.

In his case, I don’t think it’ll be a bad thing if he works towards a mandatory shot in the next 12-18 months. He will still only be 26 and ready to hit his prime and in the title picture.

I don’t like what I saw tonight. After the first knockdown Ennis got careless and he was hit with 2 very clean right hands. With the right puncher, he could have been in the canvas as well. The most dangerous man in the ring is a hurt man. Lucky for Ennis those punches did no damage.

Only one real way to find out if he is ready...I think he is

Boots vs Radzhab Butaev make sense seems like they was building up Boots to fight the winner of James vs Butaev or give him Abdukakhorov if he goes the IBF Route

I think a mauling style like a maidana would be troublesome for ennis not to troubling just a stiffer test.

Yeah he still rushes his work at times. Could definitely do with a little more seasoning.
