A tree is much bigger than an axe but no one told that to the axe
But the tree just stands there. Plant won't. I don't think Plant will win, but I'm just pointing out the shortcoming of the analogy.
I enjoy aggressive fights, and upsets. So unless I'm rooting for a certain fighter, I usually end up cheering for the underdog or the guy who's more aggressive. In this fight, Canelo will be more aggressive, and Plant is the underdog.
But as far as Plant's chance at victory, I keep going back to his fight with Truax. I only remember my general impression. Plant (who was new to me then) didn't deliver in the way I would have expected after listening to the hype about him. I didn't think he was strong enough. And when they started talking about a possible Canelo fight, I figured there was no way on Earth it would go his way.
So I'm anticipating a Canelo win here.

I’m inclined to go with the flow on this one and suspect Canelo may catch up with him in the later rounds. However there are a few factors that suggest this is going to be a much closer fight than everyone is expecting.
Canelo has fought fighters of a similar size to plant recently, Smith and Kovalev. Smith went the distance although was clearly only there to survive. Kovalev got stopped late but was coming off the back of a very hard fight against Yarde, a short training camp and was well past his prime. Point being that Canelo both time was taken int ok the tail end of the fight and couldn’t make his power count early against guys with a significant height and reach advantage, both of whom were arguably inferior boxers to plant at this point of his career. People forget just how big plant is for 168.
Way bigger than both Canelo and Saunders. That’s going to make it a lot easier for him to stay on the outside and going to make Canelo work a lot harder to catch him. He struggled to close distance on Kovalev who was winning the fight when he stopped him. People are looking at the Saunders fight and just assume plant will go the same way. I don’t think that’s a given. Plant seems to be coming to win, lives the life unlike Saunders and is significantly bigger. Reasonable to expect Plant gives Canelo a much better run for his money. I give him perhaps a 40/60 chance of the upset.
And Smith has a 78" reach. Didn't stop Canelo busting him up.
Real recognizes real. A guy like Tyson knows a live dog like Canelo when he see’s one and knows a ***** ass loud mouth like Plant when he see’s one.
Did Plant really think Tyson would ride for him? No chance.
Plant talks a good game but doesn’t have the history to back it up.
We know Canelo has that dog in him. Plant has yet to show that.
As others have said, I think Plant will a have a couple good rounds early. I could even see him sweeping the 1st 3 rounds. That first round will probably be a war of nerves. Plant will probably move a lot, neither guy is gonna wanna get hit with something flashy first, so they’ll probably play it safe.
By about round 4 or maybe 5 I expect Canelo to have Plant figured out. From that point Plant starts to engage less, makes Canelo miss but doesn’t make him pay. Plant stops throwing with bad intentions & instead looks to just stick & move. Canelos confidence rises with each passing round, starts touching Plant more & more & systematically begins breaking him down.
Given his style, his reach & his height I can see Plant making it to the final
bell. I just don’t see him winning enough rounds to get a decision. I just see a point in the fight where he stops trying to win & instead tries to survive. & if he does he’ll take that moral victory & probably raise his hands as if he’s won. - then he’ll say he dictated the pace, Canelo couldn’t knock him out, etc.
plants height reach dont matter. canelo has now fought quite a few of these lanky bums and hes gotten very good at closing the distance and breaking down their bodies.
I read Plants manager used to go to the amazon warehouse over there in nashville at lunch time and look for people in the parking lot who looked like they could make 168 and ask if they wanted to be his next opponent.

if plant actually uses his jab to the body that is probably the smartest thing he can do. none of these lanky bums have been able to control the distance. I think canelo will solve him easy. jabs to the head he slips and gets inside easy. Being tall he will have to bend down to jab to the body and that could put him at an opportunity for canelo to set up counters which if he can connect with them or atleast threaten to connect will get plant to stop using it.
I think Canelo is P4P and on paper he will do what Tyson suggests but I like Caleb and am rooting for a great fight. If this were a movie, it has all the trappings for an upset. Even down to Canelo working out in expensive crystal shorts. Either way this an historic fight and I’m anxious to see it.

Touche
Just using that as an example about size. Sometimes a fighter will rely on it and hope for the best (usually, size matters - Fury vs Wilder). Nelo has dealt with it before. I'm guessing Team Plant knows pitty patting Nelo won't win him the fight. Rightfully or wrongly, some say winning a UD vs Nelo is an impossibility. This has to play into their game plan.
The moment Plant decides to trade punches will spell his doom. If Plant feels that power and gets on his bike, he's doomed via the judges.
