Why did Usyk agree to a rematch clause?

Wouldn't it be better to leave his options open instead of being forced to fight AJ? He could've held out for more money that way,he would've had all the leverage & the just like in Porter v Crawford case,Hearn would've never let it go to purse bid over a rematch clauseComment

My guess is because Hearn required it. If you’re Usyk, you don’t want AJ to drop the belt and you get some meager payday against the 2nd guy.
Usyk strikes me as the kind of fighter that was willing to do all this little stuff to get AJ in the ring for all belts.Comment

In business we call that selling yourself short. But your argument makes most sense (because its the closest I've heard to acknowledging that he got screwed for only thinking 1 move ahead instead of more than 1)Comment

It was either give in to what AJ wanted or have him drop belt and face Charles Martin( #2 ranked ibf) for probably 1/20th of what you could make.
Sort of like Floyd with ODH and Canelo with Floyd. You gotta put up with garbage when you’re dealing with the top dawg.

When he signed there would be no guarantee who he would be fighting. If he fought FURY in March how much do you think will be on the table? my question to you is do you believe Usyk is annoyed he is fighting AJ next ?Comment

I don’t think he had the luxury to think more than one move ahead.

My point is that it was a dumb move to be forced to rematch AJ with a set in stone split where he doesn't get lions share. Its always better to have leverage in business, regardless of whether Fury lost,Usyk could've had all the belts & played hardball. Just look at Andy Ruiz who Usyk should've learned fromComment
