  • Why do people still act like AJ is a really good fighter

When (and how) he lost to Ruiz, you would think the sensible answer from anyone who knows boxing would be - 'OK, this guy isn't really that good. A really good fighter would never lose to Andy Ruiz, especially the way AJ lost that fight'

Instead, people talk about how that win makes Andy Ruiz great lol.

When Callum Smith lost (in reality) to John Ryder - the sensible people all said 'OK, Smith isn't that good. Ryder is also better than advertised' It's fair to give Ruiz some credit, but the main thing that fight told us, is that AJ is just not the guy.

Some great guys in history have had bad/embarrassing losses; but overall their resumes are much better than AJ's as far as good wins.

AJ fights everything at home, and he has 2 wins over good fighters in their relative prime - Parker and Whyte. And Whyte is not that good, and Parker went 12 rounds with him and if that fight wasn't at home, who knows how the ref would have let them fight.

    ------

Why are AJ fans so dumb and why do they worship a guy who isn't that good? Like if you back a horse that doesn't have the goods, fine, just pick someone else. Don't double down on a guy who just doesn't have it.

Olympic gold medalist. It’s not boxing ability he lacks, its the warrior inside that wilder and fury displayed that he lacks. Also stamina too.

After 8 rounds against Usyk, the fight was a draw, but AJ just got tired after that

Yet another thing he got handed to him, that he didn't really deserve, because he was fighting at home. Good point.

The guy just isn't that good. He is a media/marketing creation. It's obvious.

Theres only two "really good" fighters in that division by all time standards and thats Fury and Usyk.

I really just would have thought that after that Ruiz fight, people who were fans would have realized he isn't quite what he was made out to be.

Josh is a good fighter, as he's beat many good fighters. He avenged loss to ruiz he was just too complacent it happens, and josh did very well against another very good fighter in usyk.
What if Josh beats usyk I'm next fight will Josh critics think Josh is good again?

AJ has all the tools to be great with the exception of the 1 that matters most and that's the will to walk through fire. I blame Hearn and the public as much as I do AJ. He was built up as the next coming of an ATG and never really pushed after the Klitsko fight IMO. I think he should have been in America and Japan and Russia and everywhere else in the world taking on all comers instead of staying at home and fighting whoever came to him. It's not that he has took the easy fights he hasn't compared to others but 60,000 plus fans cheering for you everytime does play a roll. He could have had global success and been hardened by fighting outside his comfort zone but he didn't and I honestly think it made him soft to a degree.

I still like him. He wasn't as good as advertised but he's alright.

He's fought all of his fights in his own backyard. If he went to someone else's house or fought neutral, how many more losses would he have?

He has 3-4 somewhat impressive wins imo - Wlad, Parker, Whyte, and you could argue Ruiz rematch where he bounced back, thought it was still a mixed bag there. Even 3 of 4 of those are at home. He has some other OK wins but nothing really exceptional, and again, everything in his own backyard.
