I rank him above them both. Marquez never had the chance to face morales, but other than that he has done better than him against everybody. Junior Jones has nothing on Marquez. Neither of those guys have ever been arguable P4P number one, and earned shots against Mayweather like competition.

      I don't.

Can anyone really say Marquez is one of the 10 greatest at any weight which he participated? Is his overall resume up to par with guys regarded among the top 100 to ever do it? Does he even have a career defining win?

I know we can nitpick anyones career and I don't like to do it, but as far as I'm concerned Marquez has a few nice wins over aging champs like Barrera and Casamayor (ex-champ) and solid middling fighters/titleholders like Juan Diaz. Like many people say, his best performances came in a loss and a draw to MAnny Pacquiao, an all-time great fighter.

His peers whom I hold in higher regard (Morales, Barrera, Pacquiao) all have easy cases to make when you think about the things I pointed out to start my post.

Morales has the defining wins against Barrera, Zaragoza and Pacquiao. He is one of the 3 greatest 122 pounders of all-time and has one hell of an overall resume. His work at 126 and 130 was consistent and impressive considering his competition.

Barrera beat Morales and Hamed in career defining fights. He revived his career twice and reinvented himself during his championship runs. One could easily make a case that Barrera is top 3-5 all-time at 122 and top 10 at 126.

Pacquiao beat all three of his vaunted Mexican peers in addition to DLH and HAtton. His resume is excellent and he could definitely be considered top 10 at 122 and 130 all-time.

So after all of this, I sum up by saying Marquez is a very good fighter with a lot of talent, but he's not among the very best to ever do it....yet.

Barrera and Morales were far more dominant in the lower weights than JMM although the latter won twice at lightweight. by the same logic, Duran who dominated lightweight for a decade is higher in ATG rankings compared to multiweight division Hearns even if the latter beat the former.....

i still rank barrera and morales higher in the ATG rankings.....

El Terrible would have looked terrible and would lose a thrilling UD. Marquez is a better counter puncher than Barerra, and has more power.

Marquez is afuture Hall-of-Famer but I don't think he's an all-time great (Maybe because of a not-so-good resume). I agree with Mak that Marquez is ranked behind Morales and Barerra.

                      what this guy said.

Seriously, marquez was shamelessly ducked by the superstars like hamed. mab & em made their fame & fortune off their trilogy while marquez had to wait until his draw & close loss to pacquiao to get his. very interesting how his career would have been if he got a earlier shot at hamed, mab, & em.
