Comments Thread For: Tyson Fury: I'm Now The Greatest Heavyweight In My Era Without A Doubt

Tyson Fury already entered the night as the best current heavyweight in the world. Following a repeat knockout win over Deontay Wilder--having to recover from two knockdowns to prevail Saturday evening at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas--the belief is that the reigning lineal/WBC champion has transformed from a top heavyweight to an all-time great.

However, it isn't much of an era. Is it.

Based on the eye test, he looks it. But hes fought literally one guy in the current top 10. If thats good enough to be the best of your era it says more about the era than you.

        Realy good and dramatic fight.
That KO at the end was a real cutthroat moment.

Well he's ahead right now but it's reasonable to opine that Usyk could make a case in the future. Just based on accomplishments Joshua is probably a better scalp than Wilder, although yes Klitschko plus Wilder >> Joshua plus Witherspoon.

Obviously what's needed is a bout for undisputed, but.. Y'know.. Boxing.

            No question.

But his resume is quite average for the standard of greats.....

Definitely the best of this era, better than Wladimir and probably beats Usyk. Is he better than Vitali Klitschko was, I don't know.

I can't see Fury beating the greats of the past, like Lewis and all the way back to the era of Louis and co., but what a boxer for such a big guy. He doesn't have that chiselled physique, but boxing isn't a bodybuilding contest.

Wilder showed a lot of heart, he got very far in boxing with a limited skillset.

I'm presuming 99% of us would agree. We can all argue about how strong or weak the era actually is but he's gotta be seen as the best in it.

Joshua or Usyk would bring him work and I'd love to see those fights but Fury would have to be seen as a big favourite.

He can only fight what's in front of him, it's not his fault there's no-one to touch him at the present time.
Wilder was his nemesis and he's beaten him 3x.
I'm looking forward to him defending the belt asap and then unifying v Usyk or AJ.
I don't give AJ much hope in that one, but then I wrote him off after the Ruiz loss and he proved me wrong, with the help of a 22ft ring and a near-fatal amount of pizza.
Can't see Usyk being anything less than professional and fully prepped for the rematch.
Can't see AJ suddenly developing punch resistance and the ability to recover from being buzzed either, but maybe he can come in with a game plan that plays to his strengths and not Usyk's.
Thing is, he's then got to impose that game plan on an opponent who's ring IQ is way superior....

My view is that Vitali was a much better fighter than Wilder. I've never ever seen anyone control distance as well as Vitali. Excellent boxer with as strong a chin as anyone ever.

As someone else said, Fury is ahead, but the question isn't really resolved unless he has faced the key rivals of his era. A points victory against a gun-shy Wlad, several years of Wilder fights and then a bunch of fights against nobodies is hardly an unassailable record. He really has to face Usyk and probably Joshua to say he is the best of his era.
