Las Vegas - It’s the year of the sports comeback with Tiger Woods, Pedro Martinez, Roger Federer, and Tom Brady all coming back to their respective sports in attempts to reclaim their places in sports history. Joining the roster is Floyd “Money” Mayweather, already a six-time world championship in five weight divisions, coming back to the sweet science, after a nearly two-year layoff against five-time world champion in three weight divisions Juan Manuel “Dinamita” Marquez on Saturday, September 19 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. the lay off will have zero effect on floyd. I'd agree if floyd blew up 40 lbs in between fights, but he doesn't.

dont think the layoff will effect him because i think he knew he was coming back so he stayed in the gym and in shape

The layoff will have an effect. As was said in the article, being in a competitive fight against a fighter of the calibre of JMM is completely different to staying in shape at the gym.

well i dont think the layoff will effect him too much, not to say it wont at all but if he loses i think it will be because JM is just better. I totally agree with people on the skills mayweather has shown in his career, but has he ever beat a top pound for pound guy ? castillo, hatton and judah arent exactly great fighters, castillo would be the closest to great and there fights were very close. judah is mental when it comes to boxing intelligence, i mean he was doing well against floyd in the first 6 rounds, i actually had him winning but then he just stops fighting and goes way down hill from there. in my opinion he didnt beat ricky nearly as fast as he should have, he ran and even let hatton win some round.
I aint saying he doesnt have the potential to be in the class on the sugar ray robinson and leonard and ali , but those guys in floyds position would have already beat cotto, mosley , williams, clottey, berto, even collazo. I mean he really hasnt beat a top 10 ww.
i mean baltomir and judah, cmon. I would give floyd all the props in the world if he proved me wrong , but until then he is just skills and nothing more. a guy like pacquiao , fought barrera , marquez, and morales all in like a year and a half span, all top p4p guys. Thats what great fighters do, they dont pick and choose the easiest fights for the biggest money. besides castillo, floyds riskiest fight was judah in my opinion and that came off a loss to baldomir. no disrespect to floyd but he needs to do more with all his skills and even if he beats JM that dont impress me since the guy is 35 with some good wars under his belt coming up nearly 10 pounds in weight ...Last edited by disol7; 09-08-2009, 04:19 PM.

Floyd will be fine. The whole reason for him retiring was
to get his mind right and heal his body up. The lay off did
him more good than bad I believe. He'll probably take like
4RDS to feel everything out but then after he is going to
get in his comfort zone be the same Floyd that turn buckled
Ricky Hatton. Like Emmanuel Steward said, Floyd is a
natural fighter with great skill so an almost 2 year lay off
shouldn't affect him much.
