Because boxing fans and sports fans in general are reactionary and prone to hyperbole. You're a either ATG or a bum

For me Joshua is still an elite heavyweight he beats everyone below Fury, Wilder, Usyk level. He possibly wins the Usyk rematch and is 50-50 with Wilder

When Sky puts on elaborate stadium intros in only his, what was it, 11th fight around 2016 and the Mirror newspaper has him hovering over Klitschko next to Ali hovering over Liston, then yes he was overrated:

His upper body movement and footwork are genius.
He actually turns the size difference into his favour and few fighters can do that

In fairness to AJ and I am not a fan but people talk about his losses but the thing is if your favourite fighters wasn't divas and fought the guys they were supposed to they'd likely have losses and probably some damn embarrassing ones themselves. Tbf to him he at times did a little better than I maybe expected but the cream always rises to the top.

Just like Usyk will eventually lose, it happens when you're continually fighting the best opposition.

Yes he was overrated but he is still a top 3 HW & not particularly anymore vulnerable or less skilled than vast majority of the other top HWs out there he just, unlike them challenged himself.

If I was AJ or a part of his team I'd have straight up avoided Usyk at least for a few years.

Usyk was the better fighter. I give him full credit.

But Anthony Joshua was way overrated by some, who were already crowning him an all-time great.

                  Both things can be true.

Maybe overrated was the wrong word. He is that but he's not a bad fighter. Usyk moving up to heavyweight and snatching those titles from a fighter as GOOD as Joshua is part if what makes Usyk special.
