It is interpreted in a lot of different ways, sometimes good, sometimes bad, but I don't see that performance as a butchery at all.

I'm not saying it was bad, just that the US seems to be the only nation that finds it acceptable to reinterpret their anthem... I'm pretty sure the definition of anthem is that it follows a familiar tempo each time. Personally I hate it when we get a pop star warbling our anthem.
