I'm not a big believer in personality. It's nice if you have it but it's fine if you don't, as long as you take care of business in the ring against top notch opposition.
Young George Foreman for example wasn't Mr. Personality. Neither was Thomas Hearns. But both became legends.
Also young fighters should take a lesson from Rigondeaux and not stink out the joint. Even if you win the fans and the networks/streaming services won't be clamoring to see your next fight.

I feel you on that definitely.
You are right, these younger fighters need to face each other more.
I still think these old guys returning is ridiculous.Comment

Hey you are right man.
Two things:
1. Youre completely right. This generation spends more time talking about matchups and they fight 1-2 a year. I'd rather guys fight ANYONE than not fight but its insane how bad the WW division is. In the past 8 years we've gotten like 8 fights against each other among top guys...horrific.
These guys hardly fight man and goes to show where their minds are to a degree. Not too committed and are complacent.Comment

Right.
I hope soon these platforms understand that and stop investing in these old guys man. As I said, all due respect to the legends, but freaking stay out of the sport man it looks bad seeing how these guys have aged and coming back to fight.
Reminds me of old retirees wanting to fight from a retirement community or something.Comment

You got a point man.
To a degree it's true though, Floyd did really maximize and made the trend huge which is why these old guys are coming back. they see the nice checks.
But still, as a genuine fan of the sport it's all ridiculous to me.Comment

Homie, how can you be successful in a business that has an entertainment factor if you don’t have some personality?

George did. He appeared on shows like Sanford and son. The media portrayal wasn’t right but that was a different generation.
Thomas may not have but he benefited from his opposition and his hometown crowd. That is also a completely different generation.
Your point about Rigo contradicts your initial point. He fought guys. He beat them. But his style is held against him.
Now if he was a loser that throws a lot, bleeds but eventually gets ktfo, he would be getting endless high profile payday fights like Gabe Rosado.
Is that really good for the sport?Last edited by The Big Dunn; 09-09-2021, 10:52 AM.Comment

I agree but that is the generation we’re in where top guys don’t fight more than 3 times a year once they make it big.
You think that is the network and promoter decision or the young fighters?Comment

True, quick example of that, Bud Crawford. I love him, legend, HOF etc etc etc,
but he is really dull in his personality. I think that is one of the reasons a lot of people don't even know who the guy is.Comment
