I am not thrilled with this fight either but let's keep in mind that a 41 year old past prime Povetkin knocked out a 32 year old Whyte, almost 10 years his junior. Avenging his loss by KO over a 42 year old Povetkin coming off of Covid (effects linger for months after it's "gone"), is not exactly like a 22 year old Joe Louis losing to a 31 year old veteran Max Schemling and then coming back at 24 to avenge the defeat vs a 33 year old Schmeling.

Whyte, a veteran, lost to a past prime 40+ year old. And as someone who battled covid, let me tell you Povetkin was definitely still feeling the effects. You can tell with his ring walk and how every punch wobbled him. It was very irresponsible to make that rematch with him like that. that stuff weakens you for months after there's no symptoms. It took me a while to get back in the gym after the effects were gone. It was not like "Oh, negative for covid, i'm good now, back to lifting like I was"...It was a very slow process back. Mind you it was not even as bad as Povetkin, he was hospitalized. I was fine, resting at home, just very weakened by it. That dude got hospitalized. You could see his weigh in pics from the first fight, clearly in shape, and the rematch clearly out of shape, 2 different fighters. It's like he was just going through the motions to get it over with and stop delaying the rematch. He was likely pressured into it.

So yeah Arreola is old and far from the fighter he was in the late 2000s, but Whyte is not exactly Ali or Foreman or anything like that.

Charles Martin offered to fight him, but Whyte turned that down! Martin has kinda redeemed himself as of late also, so he might have been a worthwhile challenger.

Wait, I thought Arreola was a joke of a fight for Ruiz last year?

Arreola is far younger than your typical Whyte opponent.

I am up for this one, it would be great if Arreola KOs him. Not like Whyte has any other options, Ruiz would have been better, but after knee surgery I imagine he takes a tune up next.

No, it’s because I can smell yer idiocy from far afar.

Why does Martin keep calling out Whyte when he could easily fight other PBC heavies? Or are PBC heavies allergic to fighting one another? Ortiz keeps digging up cans from bins when PBC can make Ortiz vs Martin happen.

Did Hearn do a poor job ? Well Hearn wasn’t crazy about fighting Povetkin and his only mistake was not getting the Breazeale fight which would have got him the Wilder fight but Hearn didn’t negotiate much there he thought Whyte holding the Silver belt and being ranked one was going to be a done deal,it wasn’t ,Fury came into the picture as well but Hearn kept him in good standings and made him a PPV fighter in the U.K .
He did the right thing with the AJ fight because it would’ve ended his career. And that was also when he was flirting with PBC.

Anyway, I was alluding to how his career is based on fighting AJ’s leftovers.

Whyte’s last 4 fights didn’t do anything for his career and honestly they killed all the hype/momentum he built after beating Parker. I remember saying on here that the fight against Rivas was unnecessary and he should’ve pushed for the Breazeale fight. And probably Kownacki after that. Then put 2 young unbeaten bums who’re Schwarz’s level in the mix. All these are very easy fights and they would’ve boosted his profile whilst moving the needle. However, he took the needless Rivas fight that led to him using PED. I also said he had no business fighting Povetkin and predicted that he would get sparked before the first fight and that’s basically what happened.

A lot of the blame falls on Matchroom/Hearn due to their lazy matchmaking

Hearn didn’t make him a PPV fighter - riding AJ’s coattails made him a PPV fighter

Front runner? He has been lapped so many times already the other guys must be in wheelchairs. Is it still all right to say wheelchairs in public?

He was but I guess he performed better than expected against Ruiz so he can be recycled yet again. It seed preordained to be a soft touch of sorts since Jermaine Franklin's name was floated at one point.

I've always said Whyte has good resume but some of those wins he could have easily lost and some others have an asterisk for one reason or another. While Arreola is an underwhelming choice, Whyte doesn't necessarily inspire alot of confidence himself. You just never know with him...
