Recent history has shown us that Canelo doesn’t truly value the Mexican dates, as he fought sparingly on those weekends the last few years. Not just that but there’s also less intriguing matchups left for Canelo to fight besides a Benavidez or a GGG rematch others don’t excite me much. Anyhow, with the rise of KO artist Vergil Ortiz Jr. and the potential matchups in his future like Crawford, Spence, Ennis etc… just to name a few the opening is there for Vergil to take over them Mexican dates from Canelo. Truthfully, if Oscar is able to make Crawford vs Ortiz Jr. for Cinco de Mayo weekend 2022 I would choose to watch that fight over any of Canelo’s recent matchups.
How long before Vergil Ortiz Jr. takes over the Mexican dates?

He has to beat someone good first and get a title. The Mean Machine win was a great start though
Him and Ennis are a great start -
Agreed, here’s hoping Uncle Al pulls Porter from the purse bid and the WBO orders Crawford vs. Vergil next. A win over arguably a Top 2 P4P fighter like Crawford would elevate Vergil to Superstar status and have him fighting in Vegas top resorts.Comment

Dont see Ortiz beating Crawford personally but that is a fireworks fightComment

I wouldn’t count Vergil out, this kid is special. Yes, he’s only 23 yrs old but he’s wise beyond his yrs. I mean that jab is a thing of beauty and keeps his opponents honest, add his exceptional endurance the kid has a shot to upset anyone.Comment

I don’t think he wins that fight, but he would give a good account of himself and he would be a PPV star fighting on those Mexican dates. He is perfect for those dates and for me it’s a matter of time before he takes over those dates.Comment

Definitely wouldn't give him NO shot and TC is already 33-34 but I favor TC 60-40ish, maybe 55-45Comment

Even if he loses to Crawford who cares? As long as he learns from it and comes back better then he just gained valuable boxing IQ while still being 23 or 24.
He'll still be young but now with a leveled up skillset.
Just like Canelo after Floyd whipped him. And look at Canelo now.Comment
