No you didn't read the article properly. They are talking about an article in the UK newspaper The People, not a US newspaper, and that article says that the UK arm of ESPN is trying to win these fights away from Sky:No think they mean ESPN in the US cos both fights will surely land on Sky Box Office over here, shame though cos if ESPN UK were gonna show these fights then it might mean that they were finally gonna pick up where Setanta left off. I'd buy ESPN UK if they showed at least a slight committment to Boxing but nothing as of yet."Espn's British invasion continues apace as the US broadcaster prepares to battle Sky Sports for the rights to screen Amir Khan's next fight.
He won his first world crown, the WBA light-welterweight title, by beating Andreas Kotelnik in July - a bout broadcast by Sky Box Office.
But theirs is a fight-to-fight deal and ESPN will muscle in when Khan, whose promoter Frank Warren is in negotiations with mandatory challenger Dimitry Salita about a December clash, announces his first defence.
The channel will consider showing Khan's fight as part of their subscription package, while Sky Box Office is pay-perview - punters paid £14.63 for the Kotelnik scrap.
Espn are interested in screening David Haye's WBA heavyweight title clash with Nikolay Valuev in November and could be interested in ITV's deal with Hennessy Sports, which runs out this year."Last edited by Dave Rado; 09-06-2009, 09:20 PM.Comment

ESPN UK isn't available to everybody, it's a subscription channel and only has a tiny number of subscribers.
What's really needed is for ITV or the BBC to support boxing, because everyone in the UK has access to them - but the BBC isn't interested and ITV has just pulled the plug.Comment
