    Can Marquez HURT Mayweather?

The more I think about this fight, the more I vacillate.

At first, I was pretty certain that Marquez would exploit the long layoff to outhustle and outpoint a rusty Mayweather. Unlike most fans, I don't think the size difference is as substantive as it is made out to be. In my ever-so-humble opinion, inactivity is a bigger disadvantage than a few pounds of size deficit.

I rewatched some fights recently, and was reminded that despite Marquez landing some solid combos flush on Pacquiao, and hitting Barrera with a lot of punches, he wasn't able to finish them off. Or even hurt them enough to get close to that. Nah, he can't stop Floyd.

Then, he gains weight and dusts off Casamayor and Diaz - both for the first time in their respective careers. Marquez did what a stiff-punching Katsidis could not do. So I was thinking that, like Pacquiao, JMM benefited from the move to a higher weight class.

So, I thought "well, maybe. If he hits Floyd with the kind of punch Corley or Zab did, JMM is a good enough fighter to finish Floyd". Plus, Mayweather will be more tired late in the fight than he has been in a looong time. Perhaps Marquez can TKO a fatigued Floyd.

What do you guys think? Do you envision a scenario where Marquez could hurt Floyd enough to get the KO/TKO? More likely a TKO?

I don't see a straight one-punch KO happening. VERY unlikely. But what about a flurry of punches (a la Oscar/Vargas)?

Absolutely. If JMM lands clean, it's a wrap.

Possibly. It would have to be a great punch, though

Marquez will hit Floyd a lot. A TKO can happen.

Chances are remote. Floyd has good defense and a good chin.

No way. Marquez can ONLY win by decision.

I think he could if adding weight did indeed add to his strength and punching power. Hitting Mayweather is the problem.

Yes he can. He hurt Pac, Diaz and Casa. Three sturdy chins cracked by JMM.

The trick Marquez needs to pull off is increasing his speed while adding weight
to his body. If Beristain knows what he's doing, then Juan will be in great condition.

The problem will be penetrating Floyd's defense to be effective enough to do damage.

ive noticed that even though JMM has been adding weight, he continues to throw the same volume with even MORE force than in his lighter days...and actually JMM set a personal record for punches thrown in them rounds against Diaz while still remaning accurate and even more powerful than ever before.

If the same holds true with this most recent muscle gain I think JMM will rock PBF with a counter over a slowing jab in the mid rounds and finish him off with his trademark combos.

But Hatton and Oscar - two solid punchers who are both bigger than JMM - never dented Floyd's chin.
