Why does it matter? Could be slow ticket sales since it was signed on short notice.
What have you seen from Wilder that makes you think this goes differently? You think at 35 he’s suddenly going to learn how to use angles and footwork instead of falling back on what he’s always done? With a new trainer and no tune up fights?

Sonny Liston would have ended Fury's career and Wilder's as well. Liston was super talented and so vicious that other top fighters avoided him. There are always excuses for the old guys. Here's my take, Bowe's 2 very good wins, to his one loss vs Holyfield, came right at the beginning of Holyfield's HW days when he was very undersized, and still adapting to the division. Golota X2, and the binning of the belt to avoid Lewis showed Bowe for the fraud that he is. He's not in my top 100, and Fury could beat him with one arm behind his back. Wilder would smash him to pieces at some point in the fight. Nash out.

Per Bob Arum, the fight had already done 14 million at the gate, so there's that excuse. Again, if Wilder is some bum, and Fury only need be a shell of himself to beat him, why postpone the fight 3 months?

Jared Anderson had Fury out on his feet? Going to have to keep an eye on this kid.

Yeah, if true, it kinda gives his 9-0 with 9 KO's some merit. Fury is considerably bigger than Anderson. Anderson appears to like coming in at around 240lbs, at 6'4". His physique also looks like he is not just some blown up Cruiserweight who doesn't want to lose fat. Looks to be in his proper weight class. Fury at 260-270lbs, 6'9", huge man. That makes Anderson's power a must-watch when he steps up.

But again, Fury may have been affected by covid. That stuff makes you physically weak. I remember having brain fog when I had it, it was hard to concentrate. I also struggled doing pull-ups and push ups. I certainly would not be able to spar anyone while on covid.

Sonny Liston at 6'1", 215lbs, would have had a very difficult time vs today's big heavyweights. Sonny Liston was a good sized HW for his time. Now in today's weight classes, he'd be better off a Cruiserweight.The guys he fought or who "avoided" him were on average, 6'. Among the tallest of the top HW's he fought was Ali, who was 6'3", 210lbs. Prime Ali weighed around 210-215, as he got older he started weighed 220lbs. Keep that in mind. Ali stopped Liston twice. In the rematch, in 1 round. HW's today are much more powerful, because they are so much bigger. The issue for Liston would be, they are not big/tall like Valuev (slow), they are big and retain athleticism.

Okay now we have 240-270lb, 6'5" - 6'9 Heavyweights.

These things matter in boxing. There comes a point where size overcomes skill. For example, there's only so much weight Mayweather or Pacquiao can overcome. Like no one would expect Pacquiao to fight GGG at 160lbs. Pacquiao is the better fighter, yes, but the size would be too much. Nobody expects GGG to fight Beterbiev at 175lbs.

Sonny Liston today, would be similar in size, in the ring, on fight night, as the Cruiserweights.

I am not entirely sure why fans ignore the size and strength differences between athletes as the decades pass by. It's like people saying the baseball pitchers of the past would strike out the batters of today. The pitchers of the golden era of baseball pitched 80-83mph, that was blazing fast. Today, an 80mph fastball would get you kicked out of the MLB. That's a meatball, a home run derby pitch. I threw 80mph at 18 years old, that's a scrub. Won't even get me looked at. In baseball's inception however, i'd have gotten signed. You now have baseball players who are 6'7", 285lbs and are the fastest runners in their team. Times have changed. Jerry West of the Lakers was an All-Star, amazing player of his time, Hall of Famer, MVP, NBA champ, scoring champ, and so on. He would most likely not be as successful today. Probably nowhere near as successful.

Same goes for boxing. Boxing is not immune to the changes in sports. Henry Armstrong's technique and style, in the few footages that exists of him, he probably wouldn't do too well vs the likes Pacquiao, Mayweather, Canelo.

Fans can ignore changes all they want, and deny that the changes matter. It can't ever be proven false, but it's something so obvious that one has to be delusional to ignore it.

I think Fury getting touched up in sparring isn't a bad thing. After a couple of days or weeks of sparring he would then start to adjust and get the better of his sparring partners. Holyfield when he was training for Tyson brought in Gary Bell and David Tua and it was well known that they beat him up a few times in sparring. Over time, Holyfield adapted and learned how to counter their style and things changed. Ali got beaten up and tested a lot by Larry Holmes sparring for his fight against George Foreman. The list goes on and on.

I don't know what Fury is looking for in sparring. I wish them both good luck and hope to see a great fight.

The rumours started before the fight was cancelled. They were triggered by an interview Bob Arum gave, in which he said that Jared Anderson, who was scheduled to fight on the undercard, had been giving Fury Hell in sparring. That was obviously Arum trying to get publicity for his young prospect, but the very next day, up popped Tay Jones from Wilder's team saying that sources in Fury's camp had told them that Jared had knocked Fury out on his feet and Efe Ajagba had also given him a beating.

Take it all with a large pinch of salt.

I agree with Scott that it isn't crazy that Fury was getting touched up since he had good fighters in camp. I mean if he was getting touched up by some journeymen, that is one thing but guys like Ajagba and Anderson are undefeated young fighters trying to make a name for themselves. They are going to be coming after Fury every single time.
