Truthfully most boxers walk around weight would be close to 30 to 40 lbs heavier if they decided to not diet and focus on getting lean. Very few boxers are an exception as most start to naturally bulk up once the diet is removed.

Facts are that aside from not being at a huge size disadvantage most boxers decide to get really lean for the speed advantage. I am still really quick when boxing (used to compete in amateurs), especially for my stature. But compared to when I am 30 lbs lighter I am even that much quicker.

30lbs lighter that much quicker and that much less powerful, there is a sweet spot where the power to weight ratio has the right speed and reaction time, that's a guys best-fighting weight.

The reason guys try to be as lean as possible is to be the bigger fighter in the fight, and this is where the fun begins of overdoing it or underdoing it.

Rehydration alone will often add 10% to even as high as 15% abocve weigh-in weight and often fighters will drop 10 to 15 in camp although in this case if he's already at 8% bf it probably wouldn't be that much. Certainly I'd expect a younger guy walking lean at 160 to make 140, and a guy in his 30s 147.

Definitely, floyd never looked soft while he was active. But you’re underestimating how low 8% is. that’s completely shredded

Duran was straight up obese at 200, guys like Alvarez are mini tanks. With water cuts guys can be much higher than the traditional same day weigh fighters in between fights.

In the old days a traditional light heavyweight would weigh 200 pounds in non training weight. These days that would probably be a middleweight or possible a super middleweight.

Errol used to get as high as 185-190 pre accident but he's seems to keep the weight down these days.
