  • Who does better against Roy Jones at 154lb: Floyd or Manny?

Obviously, Roy would be considerably bigger than both guys especially Manny... But technically, both Manny and Floyd did fight at 154lb...

I don't think even with Floyd's masterful defense and great movement he could avoid an all out assault by Roy... Floyd wouldn't be able to pot shot his way to victory like he always does (at least later in his career).... Thus he would have to FIGHT Roy...

Both Manny and Floyd have great chins and I think they could fight with Roy toe to toe for a while before the inevitable (either ref stoppage or KO)...

But would Manny be better equipped to actually fight Roy toe to toe... Manny has almost a similar level of output as Roy as far as throwing huge combinations. Manny LIKES to trade fire with fire... But prime Roy LOVES to trade fire with fire as well.

Now, Roy probably has the ability to pot shot his way to victory with both Floyd and Manny, but in this scenario assume that Roy is just going to fight toe to toe.

So in a toe to toe fight, who has a better chance against Roy?

Neither, both are most effective once they are in the inside but I should remind myself that smaller men are faster. If I had to pick one it would be Floyd.
    Marchegiano Marchegiano likes this.

Both have no chance and no success.

It’s like putting Roy in with Tyson Fury.

At some point weight classes do matter.

They would all be in the same weight class in this fantasy fight. That's the point. Expect Roy would be a big 154lber... and Floyd and Manny would be very small 154lbers.

And you COULD put Roy in with Tyson Fury as Roy fought once at heavyweight.

Also, and most importantly, Floyd and Manny are GOAT level fighters... They are once in a lifetime fighters (like Roy)... So while the size difference would be a huge factor... They would close enough in weight and TALENT that it wouldn't be a complete white wash for Roy... Neither Floyd or Manny is going to get sparked out in round 1 (unless Roy decided to go into Killer Roy mode (but he only did that once in the second Montell fight)

Roy has 74" reach. floyd dont like guys with bigger reach, which is mostly due to lack of experience with facing them so his style is based around his reach of 72" which is a huge reach for someone who fought at 130. pac is better at guys with bigger reach since he sees it constantly and his style is based on closing the gap. both are pretty ***ed here.

roy dont like to be pressed to the ropes but little guys arent going to be able to dictate the fight to him.

Yeah it's a huge reach advantage, especially over Manny... But assume Roy doesn't just rely on his reach in this fantasy fight. In a war I think Manny might have more success with Roy than Floyd...

Manny is able to fire off more combos in a short time than Floyd (Not that he'll have the power to really hurt Roy)... Also Manny throws from some really awkward angles... Floyd's style depends so much on reach, jabbing, speed and defensive movement...

Floyd not liking guys with bigger reach is the I think the main reason he never fought Lara.

In terms of size though they are multiple divisions apart. I mean take Roy and Manny for example. You have a guy who once fought at 106 vs a guy who fought at 200+. It’s crazy, fights like that just aren’t going to be competitive.

Is Manny fighting Roy at 154 THAT much crazier than Manny fighting Spence (who himself could fight at 154)?

Definitely. Roy fought at Heavyweight, Spence is a Welterweight.
