The most recent was between Hopkins and De La Hoya for the unified middleweight titles ( WBA, WBC, WBO and IBF) at 158. The Whitaker-Julio Cesar Chavez fight was for the WBC's welterweight diadem at 145. Notice the last example I gave is parallel to the Pacquiao-Cotto fight at 145, but nobody said nothing then? Do you want some more high profile catch weight fights?

Sugar Ray Leonard fought Donny Lalonde for the WBC's light heavyweight title at 168, Leonard-Hearns II was for the WBO's super middleweight
title at 163, The Terry Norris-Meldrick Taylor fight was for the WBC's Jr. middleweight title at 150, and the Whitaker-Julio Cesar Chavez fight was for the WBC's welterweight diadem at 145.

There's nothing new here, the catch weight fight has been done before except there were a lot less jealous fans back then, not unlike today's fans, who are still butthurt because their favorite boxer/s, or their countrymen got their azz handed to him by Pacman...
I think the whole complaining about the catchweight started when they demanded Cotto to put the title on the line at catchweight when he didn't want to. Remember all the fights you mentioned at catchweight for the title, both boxers involved agreed to do so but in Cotto's case he was practically forced. That's were i beleive all the complaining for the catchweight all started and I admit I was one of them, not becasue of the catchweight but because of forcing the title on the line at a catchweight.

However that's water under the bridge and Cotto had a price and was bought in that case so all we can do now is stop complaning, sit back and enjoy the fight.

165 lbs mark has been very public for the last years on Cotto walk around weight, so it is verly likely true not generous. Most recently before starting his light training for Pacman he weighed in at 165 and it was even posted on this website.

Oscar set the meet weight, NOT Pacquiao. It was still branded as a circus freak show by most, with Oscar being the unexpected freak show...
Yes, but on his last 2 fights at 130 it was well known that those were going to be his last fights at that weight because he was already having trouble to make the weight and on fight night against Diaz he weighed in at 142 or 143 (not sure the exact number but it was over 140) therefore he was not bulking up the 17 pounds you mentioned it was a lot less.

Yes hes draining so much to lose 1 pound...

People need to stop talking ****....Pac has the harder challenge of fighting a fighter 2 lbs below the max limit (cotto came in at 146 last fight)....he has 2 shave 1 pound off...

Pac cant just put on weight or make his frame bigger tho, hes just gotta deal with having the disadvantage, any1 who says cotto has the disadvantage is chatting rubbish n a probably a pac hater...

Anyway...the more i think about this fight the more i think cotto will be way to big and strong... i mean, rewatching the hatton fight with pac on that mayweather vs pac thread....hatton landed some good shots on pac, they seemed to make him stumble...(even if its the smallest of stumbles) cotto obviously has the ability to hit with a good strong counter, and hes going to be what 10 pounds or so bigger then pac?...Even against hatton pac looked small...

Yes, this was requested by Pacquaio's team and approved by Cotto. Special request had to be sent and granted by the Nevada commision becuase their regulations require 10 oz gloves in this division

For example, Paulie Malignaggi - by all accounts - really struggled to get down to 138.5. So, yes. A pound or a pound and a half can make a big difference when it is your LAST pound.
yeah right, his performance with diaz isn't what i will call struggling? ur blinded by your hate dude, 1 pound is not weight drained, coming down to 1 pound compulsary or voluntary is still coming down 1 pound below your last match, dumbass.
