I'll echo what most others have said here: a close fight, a draw would have reasonable if there were not a 117-111 card and a 10-8 in a round that saw Castaņo hurt but not out on his feet. The sad thing is I said to my girlfriend in the 9th round "one card will be 117-111 for Charlo and it's already written out." It's an absolute shame.

As for the fight, I was struck how much bigger Charlo was than Castaņo and what truly jumped out at me was his inability to control the ring despite that. There were moments where he worked his jab or a 1-2, sure, but overall I thought he did a poor job of fighting his fight. He also moves straight back, despite Castaņo coming straight forward.

Charlo also did not throw accurate punches tonight. In both sequences when he had Castaņo hurt he followed with flurries where nothing landed. In the first instance he landed one hard counter left and missed everything subsequently, in the second he landed a combination and then the same. There were other instances of course, but those two jumped out. Castaņo's defense was better-than-expected, BUT he was also right there to be hit. Charlo might need a little more double-end bag time or something.

Finally, Charlo looked like a guy who simply could not make adjustments. I recognize he dug deep and won the championship rounds and I commend him for doing so, but it was still the same fight, if that makes sense.

Castaņo fought better than I expected but he let opportunities go early. Charlo would consistently bend his back when under pressure on the ropes. Castaņo, the shorter man, would miss over the top with hooks rather than bend those knees and go for shoulders or ribs. He paid the price in the championship rounds when Charlo still had gas in the tank. I thought early on he would've benefitted from more body work in general, as he had trouble catching Charlo's head when against the ropes. Also, the overhand right was there for him all night when he threw in combinations, but he'd only ever throw it as the first or second punch in a sequence.

I thought Castaņo won a close, competitive fight but left enough room for Charlo to wiggle out. A draw is fair, the two scores mentioned above are not. Immediate rematch should be the only next step.

Charlo lost that fight by 3 or 4 rounds. The 117-111 card was ridiculous. And how the hell do you get 114-113? This is why I hate boxing. Decisions are completely ridiculous. You need a KO or nothing.

Both fighters put their belts on the line and sought out the most dangerous opponent and produced a great fight with high drama. They should be applauded, the only one that deserves anger is Vasquez who turned in a dreadful card.
Well that’s it really, it goes down to cowardice. All these little online gamer nerds living in mamas basement feel like they can spew racism from the safety of the keyboard

The amount of mental gymnastics that it takes to give Charlo 5 rounds is outstanding , the amount of mental gymnastics to give him 6 rounds is out of this world astronomical .I said it halfway thru the Aleem fight who also got fooked , Texas is the UK of America crooked @@s scored cards .Pick any MAB vs Morales fight those were close , PAC vs JMM those were close , Canelo vs GGG those were close .Last night was not a close fight Castano won that fight clearly and he got robbed , Charlo's own corner did not think it was close so GTFO w/ that bullsh^t you do not go from needing a KO to a draw .

Most ppl here don't hate black fighters, they just see the correlation of the bad scores for the black fighters time and again, admittedly it's coming across as racism from alot of ppl today though...

Sooo.. how come u haven't noticed how bad the scoring is slanted towards African Americans BLACK robb?

His offense is pretty predictable and he struggles to land on anyone with decent defense (guard or head movement) so he always has issues winning rounds unless he lands something big and hurts his opponent. He's also trying too hard with the defensive stuff which clearly isn't his style and it almost cost him his belts.

Castaņo is a hard style for anyone though because he's a come forward guy who's hard to hit but he can be hurt, so if Charlo finds a way to use his jab and to work better off of it to be a little less predictable, keep the fight at the center, and catch Castaņo with one of the big counter hooks on the inside, he can win clearly in the rematch.
Best post and best assessment of how flawed Charlo looked last night. So very true. He was overly defensive last night. He waited and he waited abs he waited, giving away rounds.

Good scrap. I had a Castano winning 7-5 but a draw is a reasonable score. Not sure what fight the judge who scored it 117-111 to Charlo watched as that is a completely ridiculous scorecard and casts a shadow on what was a very good fight. I was surprised that Charlo didn’t seem very keen on a rematch.
