Indeed, I noticed that as well. His corner have him excellent advice and tactics but Charlo was content to throw lazy 1-2 arm punches, giving up the middle of the ring to lay on the ropes and get out worked in hopes of a counter left hook. Totally neglected the check left hook and the uppercut and forgot the body existed. Just a real odd performance for Charlo, a true case of fighting down to his opponents level

Agreed but did he fight down to his opponent's level or did the moment or opponent do something he just couldn't deal with?

I don't want to discredit Castaño. He possibly beat Lara prior to this and has a pretty good amateur background. Maybe Mell couldn't get up for him based on name alone? If so, silly him lol.

This make me come to the conclusion...why do we need judges at all? Let's have an outcome based on the Compubox alone. Sure will will heve its mistakes here and there but it will be easier to swallow.
Compubox is a pos,I am completely against that idea.

        • Was a close fight I thought Mell came back to justify a draw but he gave away a lot of the middle rounds where it seemed he was losing his composure. Castano missed a lot of shots especially on the ropes Jermell slipped and rolled with a lot of them and if you watch it again you will see what I'm referring to. Castano hurt him for sure in the 3rd but Charlo hurt him in the 2nd, 9th, and 10th round bad and the entire momentum of the fight changed from that point forward. If Charlo would've just had him on the backfoot and threw more uppercuts he would've had him out of there its like his uppercut was nonexistent for the majority of the fight. Was a good fight between 2 champions both worthy competitors and the rematch definitely has to happen soon. That draw is fine for me both fought hard and showed their abilities I don't mind see it again Charlo has already beat most of the top 10's at this point anyways and Castano proved to be his toughest test to date and even showed if you can get Charlo to the ropes he's not as comfortable as he is in the center of the ring,

After Castano felt that hook he adjusted. The target that Charlo had at one point wasn't there any more and then he started to get with those right hands. Castano subtle adjustments had Charlo thinking a bit too much as he did against Harrison.

It’d be a lot more simple to just “land the uppercut and get him out of there” if Castano wasnt faster than him in every aspect. It wasn’t just the right hands catching him clean, but Castano’s overall operating speed and footspeed. Charlo could just never get comfortable because of the way he was being maneuvered to the ropes and kept there for really long parts. Mell is generally the faster guy and he had no answer for it here. He was outboxed and outfought. While he was thinking, Castano was already doing. Those sneaky right hands over the top were coming in so quick that Mell would have zero reaction to them. He was just not seeing them at ALL. By the time Mell would try to load up or adjust, castano would already be out of there,as he was waiting for the counter, and would either avoid it or try to counter the counter.

the reason he couldnt land the uppercut is the same reason GGG didn’t attack Canelo’s body...because he was getting punched in the face. It’s just that simple. He couldn’t. Mell was completely helpless in spots and visibly frustrated.

I’m super impressed with Castano here. I wasn’t sure he’d be able to overwhelm Mell like he has everyone else but he’s *seriously* skilled. Not even sure he’d win a rematch as Mell has a lot to work with with that size advantage and skills, but this last fight...there isn’t a way Charlo won that fight. Not even by one. It was competitive but it was VERY clear and this is for all intents and purposes a blatant robbery. 8-4 type fight and if youre extra extra generous with the hint of bias, 7-5.
