    Who is David morrel jr?

I keep hearing lots about him. He’s 5-0 but people here saying he’s ready for world titles? Think I read somewhere that he’ll likely be the guy to fight Canelo sometime next year. Is he really that good?

He was a very good amateur with a137-2 record, if I recall correctly. The good thing is, he and a few other from the Cuban team, defected youngs. You going to hear about Yoelvis Gomez, Ariel de la Torre, Bruzon, Pero, William Scull and Jailer Lopez too.
Check their fights in YouTube and find out. I think he's ahead of every 168 prospect, for sure. And 18 months or two years he could be ready for bigger things.

By the time these great Cuban amateurs defect, they're already past their prime. The fact that Morrell came up in that system and defected at 21 years of age should interest any boxing fan IMO. They're also bringing him along the right way, not having him face 4-67 cans for 10 fights for no reason. His opponents records in his 5 fights is 77-15-4

I saw that he fought a dude who was 22-0 in his third or so fight. Crazy.

Yeah man, that's why I tend to follow these Cuban, Japanese, Uzbek prospects, because they don't **** around at all with matchmaking. The one prospect in my sig (Nishida) fought former WBC champ Daigo Higa in his fourth pro fight. And Higa isn't over the hill either, he's 25 lol.

I always said a couple fights against low level guys is fine, build your confidence as a pro and learn the differences between the amateur and pro game. When you're still KO1'ing guys with an under .500 record years into your pro career, you're doing nothing for your development.

He has at least five amateur losses:

But yeah, the fact he came to the US at such a young age is going to be huge. He definitely looks to be a future champion. Can't wait for his fight against Ryder!

I just made a thread few days ago saying I don't know why him vs Berlanga can't happen as boths 1st true test. I don't know who is the better prospect, but that sounds like the perfect prospect fight right after Boots vs Ortiz.

Boxrec is wrong. They don't keep up with amateurs like AIBA

That will be a great fight. But imho, DMJ has been fighting better competition.
