Comments Thread For: Bellew: Usyk is Really Hard Fight For Joshua, It's Really Dangerous

Bellew is just trying to hype Usyk up so he doesn't look bad. Otherwise, no sane person thinks a cruiserweight is going to give the HW champion trouble particularly when he couldn't seriously hurt the lower ranked HWs. Usyk is fast and skilled to Joshua could have to spend a round or two to judge him. Once he catches him, it should be a straightforward knockout.billeau2 likes this.

First 4 rounds Usyk will make it awkward for Joshua with his movement but I think Joshua will land some big shots and slow him down to probably win on points

Does Usyk hit hard enough? I'm sure he will land, but it might take a combo from him, or prolonged beating to hurt AJ. The problem is, the only noticeable KO on Usyk resume is Bellew and he hasn't produced a prolonged beating since I don't remember when.

Usyk struggles with top tier heavyweights except maybe wilder but even then i believe once he lands goodnight usyk few real heavyweights can take that let alone a cruiserweight whos a modern bridgerweight max. Aj wins by late ko. More interesting in fury wilder 3 how motivated is fury would fury overestimate u can never count out wilder power and now wilder has none to lose a loss here full retirement or gatekeeper status max unless go bridgerweight win belt hope aj beats fury the come back with mando shot like what usyk doing now but your 1 fight stay busy would be a hughie fury dillian wyte

And if “old man is your marker then anyone who lost to “old man” George Foreman (46) should be shamed endlessly. Or how about “old men” Klitschkos (42 and 39) Jersey Joe (38), Lennox Lewis (38) Evander Holyfield (38).

p4p Usyk is probably too skilled for Joshua, but fights aren't fought p4p at heavyweight. Joshua should apply early pressure and once he's felt Usyk's power, impose himself. After the Ruiz thing I don't think Joshua should jump on him without tasting leather first, sometimes when you're cold and get caught bad things happen.
That said, the worst thing he can do, in my opinion, is let Usyk get comfortable boxing in rhythm for 3 or 4 rounds. Instead, he should cut off the ring and force Usyk into exchanges. Patient, but persistent. Usyk has faster feet but unless Joshua comes in with cement shoes his length should let him touch Usyk as he tries to move laterally (and probably left, away from Joshua's right). He can get himself into range and if Usyk moves left, step left and throw the jab where he's going. Moves right? Do the same to the opposite side but with the cross. Joshua can get away with lesser footwork if he utilizes his range. When Usyk gets inside, tie him up and put that weight on his shoulders to wear down his legs.
All in all good mandatory, though. I mean, by boxing's standards I'll take his quality fight anyday. It's interesting on paper, should be interesting to watch. I think Joshua KO 8
