lol @ the MMA writter putting Floyd's "average" PPV.
That goes back until his first PPV.. then he only puts the UFC's last PPV.
Why don't you compare UFC's last with Floyd's last.. it seems like a smarter thing
to do right and more fare? He didn't though because he wanted to be a biased *****.
You add up the UFC's averages and it's no where near what he said either.

    I'm with Mangler.. fuck UFC!

Isn't anyone here simply a fight fan ?

That is the major similarity between the two sports, they are both combat sports.
This is the problem with them releasing the amount of PPV buys, people use it as a measuring device to decide which sport is superior.

Boxing Rules - **** fencing! .... Boxing > American Gladiators and Lazer Tag and Paintball combined!

Its like saying, NFL is Superior to Olympic Skiing.
2 different sports, some people like both, some people prefer one, others are fanatical about one, and a casual watcher or the other, or hate both.

You don't actually believe what you just typed do you?

Floyd Mayweather Jr, has not averaged 900,000 PPV buys throughout his career.

As a matter of fact, he was never even really a huge PPV draw, until after the De La Hoya fight.

His fight with Judah sold a dismal 375K
His fight with Baldomir sold a whopping 300K
His fight with Gatti sold 365K

The UFC figures were for their last 2 PPV events, and the fact of the matter is that the UFC sells more PPVs than boxing does, on a consistent basis. It outsold boxing in PPVs in the year of 2008, and looks to do the same again in 2009.

You couldn't be more wrong. Dana White and the Fertittas have and still are avid boxing fans. They have simply pointed out what's wrong with boxing's current business model.

As a boxing fan, you should be the first one to see what's wrong.

And I'm not crying about anything. I don't feel the need to defend either sport, because in real life, the people who I know and interact with don't feel the need to choose a side, and most are fans of both, like I am.

besides the oscar and hatton fight...... which other fights of mayweather jr are PPV smash hits???? Average of 900K buys???? come on.......none of his other fights even reach 700k right??

Anyway, because of Mayweather's "injury", they changed the fight to be on the same day as the UFC (UFC's date is set way back). Mayweather better pray that he pull some high numbers even though the UFC card ain't that good either.

It appears that Mayweather Jr. and Golden Boy Promotions isn’t the least bit concerned about going head to head against the UFC on September 19th. In fact, Mayweather and Golden Boy Promotions dismiss the serious challenge that the UFC presents.

In a conference call to hype the fight between Mayweather Jr. and Marquez, the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions and Floyd himself spoke about their head to head PPV battle with the UFC:

                  Comments from Mayweather Jr

"I'm here to talk about what I got to do,"

"You know, what UFC got to do, that's their business. This is about me and Marquez pay-per-view, and we're not competing against no one else."

Comments from Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions,

"We're not really worried about it,"

"The fact is that we have the full support of the pay-per-view industry and all the main channels and everything, the marketing and so on. So that just underlines the fact that Floyd Mayweather is the pay-per-view king. So if you are the pay-per-view industry, who are you going to support? It is, of course, Floyd Mayweather, the pay-per-view king. So we're not really worried about it. Let them do what they do, and we'll focus on our own event."

                  …………………………………………………

Are you kidding me? Not worried about it? It’s one thing to be confident; it’s another to completely dismiss an opponent. Make no mistake about it; the UFC is the true opponent for Floyd and Golden Boy Promotions on September 19th.

Multiple sources quote Mayweather Jr as averaging about 900,000 PPV buys per fight. The average PPV buys for the last two UFC fights (not including 102) are 1.2 million PPV buys. But apparently, these numbers aren’t anything to worry about according to Floyd and Golden Boy Promotions.

These latest comments are another example of the disrespect that Floyd and his camp have for UFC and MMA as a sport. I’d like to take you readers back to some comments that Floyd made a few months ago, when speaking about MMA.

"It takes true skills to be in the sport of boxing, and-and Mixed Martial Art is for beer drinkers, boxing is for everybody. This is-uh, you can't take my shoes off and take my shirt off and just throw me in a cage. You do that with animals….you can't….. you don't do that with humans”….

"I don't know no fighter in MMA that generated a total revenue in two fights, which only lasted one hour in two fights, generated a total revenue of two hundred and fifty million dollars. They aren't even on my level.”

                  …………………………………………………

September 19th, will definitely be a fight. But this fight won’t be in a ring or an octagon; No, this fight will be in the PPV shares.

Will the UFC make Floyd tap out?

                  Or

                  Will Floyd knockout the UFC?

                  Please, share your comments…
**** UFC and its trailer trash sport.

Why didnt they count ufc 102? cus it was garbage?, the fact is UFC 100 and 101 were prob the companies two best cards ever. I dnt see ufc getting 1.5 million buys unless its Brock Lesnar headlining and Stpierre in the undercard.

UFC 102 PPV figures haven't even been released yet, genius.

Yes, they were the companies two best PPV events, as far as sales go, but the fact that they did that back to back in this economy speaks volumes.

Here are the UFC sales for the past 10 events:

                      UFC 91: Couture vs. Lesnar – 900,000
                      UFC 92: Ultimate 2008 – 1,000,000
                      UFC 93: 350,000
                      UFC 94: St-Pierre vs. Penn 2 – 800,000
                      UFC 96: Jackson vs Jardine - 375,000
                      UFC 97: Liddell vs Shogun - 650,000
                      UFC 98: Evans vs Machida - 635,000
                      UFC 99: Franklin vs. Silva – 350,000
UFC 100: Lesnar vs. Mir II – 1,720,000
                      UFC 101: Penn vs. Florian – 1,100,000

All but two events have surpassed the 500,000 PPV buy mark. I am as big of a boxing fan as anyone on this board, but you cannot deny the success of the UFC.
