Why is Rid**** Bowe so overrated?

Is Chicken Bowe so overrated just so people can over glorify the 90s HW's. He got decent wins over C LEVEL Thomas, Biggs, and Tubbs, and the Biggs and Tubbs fights were very close most of the way through, I can't remember the Thomas fight. He beat Bruce Seldon D LEVEL, but so did Kevin Johnson. He won 2-1 over Holyfield when Evan Fields weighed around 12 stone, Donald and Hide were two more C level wins, so he has a few decent wins, but no great win, especially given that Holyfield was a skeleton when he faced Bowe those times.

Two losses to Journeyman Golota, saved by two DQ "wins", we all know he lost those fights, and a loss by CO (chickened-out) to Lennox Lewis, wheN he put his WBC belt in the bin to avoid fighting a true, great HW.

Fond memories. Can't fault people for giving him a lot of (deserved)credit for big wins over an ATG. He had power and was pretty skilled. Very good fighter that didn't fight at a high level or keep himself in good enough shape after the Holyfield fights. I think with this sport(well, all sports), the fans tend to think their guy can beat anyone when he wins, but give all excuses when they lose. Conditioning and out of the ring decisions are just as important as the other skills you have inside the ring. If you lost because you weren't in shape and you were living recklessly, that doesn't change the fact that you lost, and it shouldn't be held against the other fighter when they took those things seriously. I don't actually think he's overrated TBH. Never heard anyone mention him as a top 10 HW of all time, or one of the greatest fighters. He just had a great peak and fizzled out.

Golota was a headcase to begin with, whereas Bowe became one after getting hammered by that very headcase.

It's the problem with rating someone based on their best win. Best win is important but doing it at a high level over a long period of time is more significant.

He is not over-rated. He then became undisciplined and Rock Newman did not do the best decisions for his career. His whole act to avoid Lewis will be forever stuck as a major duck. He is the only one to blame for his career that could had been much better.

Bowe had a great prime, just not a long one. And the trilogy with Holyfield is why he's propped up so much.

He lost twice to Golota in my mind. Absolutely battered both times, and he lost by CO (chicken out) to Lewis. Aside from a 12 stone Holyfield, he didn't beat anyone of note. He got Holyfield at the right time when he was very undersized for the HW division. I think Chicken Bowe is on the Helenius, Martin, Washington, King Malik Scott, level.
