I got no real problem in principle with a WW vs MW match-up and the circumstances that led to it means I certainly don't hold GGG at fault for taking it. No brainer... HBO weren't able to offer him anything like the $$$ he got from the Sky PPV and what was he supposed to do, just abandon the date when Eubank Jr dropped out and lose out on £3.5 mil or whatever? Still doesn't mean I saw it as a worthwhile fight for Golovkin or a particular feather in his cap, and whilst I applaud Brook for his self belief I always saw it as a mistake for him at the very least. Can't fault a guy for daring to be great though I guess.
I thought Brook had as good a chance as Eubank Jr or any other MW at that time. But what matters is that he thought he had a chance and had been badgering Eddie Hearn to get him the fight. The people who threw their hands up in horror at the mere thought of "dragging a welterweight up" to fight a dominant MW champion had no idea what they were talking about and zero knowledge of boxing history.

GGG is a duck. He has a champion calling his name on the same network with the same promoter at the same weight. And he wants no part.no weight hopping, no bias judges in your favour, no tag and run tactics, no 'side of the street', no clinching/fouls, no 'A-side', no bull****, no PEDS, just stay at a weight, clear it out, and fight all comers who want to dethrone you. and it took a proven drugs cheat and two sets of crooked judges to do that.
