    When a fighter dies.

How do you feel when a fighter dies in the ring or after a fight? I mean, deaths happen all the time in boxing, right? After a while, you kind of become desensitized to it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's not sad when a fighter dies. It's just that, deaths are pretty common in boxing. Fighters know the risks when they get in the ring.

I still think about Patrick Day every other month or so. Definitely not desensitized to it. That was the first time I'd seen someone essentially become brain-dead live in the ring. The KO was super scary with the way his head bounced off the canvas. I watched the Matias Dadashev fight live too but since he ended on his feet it wasn't quite as traumatizing though still very sad. I teared up when I heard Day passed away though. Maybe I'm just a big soft ***** but yeah... Hit me pretty hard, especially knowing he was a smart educated guy and didn't even need to be boxing, he just loved it. Obviously I haven't been a hardcore boxing fan for that long but those are my experiences and thoughts/feelings on it..

Are deaths in the ring really that common in boxing though?

It's always sad when a fighter passes away due to injuries he sustained in the ring, I mean they are getting paid to entertain us.

It’s very sad but I don’t exactly dwell on it so I get your point. Unfortunately it’s the nature of the beast.

Best to my knowledge it's still under 100 since 1880

I hate that mentality some fans have that these guys are sacrificing themselves for us and stuff. Thats just ridicilous, these guys are willingly fighting for BIG money.

Firefighters are doing something of value, and arent getting paid nearly as much as boxers, those guys are putting their life on the line. Not some misbehaving athletes who contribute nothing but entertainment (and as we know, entertainment, whether its sport or music is NOT mandatory for human life and is USELESS and VAIN at the end of the day, boxing could end tomorrow and the world goes on) and fake social outrage to society. Which begs the question why do people listen to athletes and musicians. Lets take political tips from Cardi B?

Basically, if a fighter gets seriously hurt I couldnt care less, they went in there willingly knowing it was a possibility. Like Wilder said : "The head aint meant to be hit in the first place" and he also said none of these fans are gonna look after my family if I die, so he knows whats up.

I feel guilty. To be honest it doesn't even take a death for me to feel that; I feel it most weekends watching the sport.

I rationalise that the sport saves more lives than it takes. And they are all willing participants. And they love the sport, as do I.
