In reality, he was NEVER "undisputed" cruiserweight champion because he ducked the best titleholder at the time, IBF champion Steve Cunningham.

He was quick to take a fight with the weakest, Enzo Maccarinelli.

The world heavyweight title fight between Ukraine's Vladimir Klitschko and David Haye on 20 June will not go ahead because of an injury sustained by the British challenger, Klitschko's management said yesterday.

Never held the WBU either, so?

In general when talking about undisputed you refer to holding the major belts. Earlier it was only WBA and WBC. Later came the IBF and WBO.

So the major alphabets today is generally recognized as being WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO. The rest, which includes IBO, WBF etc. is not highly regarded.

So Haye had WBO, WBA and WBC which made him a UNIFIED champion. NOT undisputed.

Can't we just call him undisputed for convenience?

This is the model I've always followed, though some still don't recognize the WBO and accept the WBC/WBA/IBF.

There are exceptions though. Like when after Taylor lost the WBA/IBF straps. No one beat him for them and I still considered him undisputed. Joe Calzaghe was in a similar situation after the Kessler fight, as was Ken Buchanan when he was stripped.

Wasn't Steiglitz the mandatory for the IBF title when Calzaghe held it and Calzaghe vacated the title rather than waste his time with this guy?

Nelson, thats as undisputed as it gets nowdays, in that case in the modern multi belt era the only undisputed champions have been Hopkins and Taylor? I mean if Calzaghe hadn't vacated the IBF he'd be undisputed.

I know there was a huge chain of guys in the HW division that held the IBF, WBA, WBC belts after Tyson lost them to Douglas but at that point the WBO was becoming a major belts organisation.

Haye in most peoples eyes including my own was undisputed hold 3 out of 4 belts is as good as it's going to get in this era.

Difference is, Calzaghe actually WON the IBF belt, by defeating Lacy, although he vacated later because HBO wouldn't televise Calzaghe-Steiglitz.

Calzaghe won all four titles and had over 20 title defenses.

Haye never had the IBF, and had only TWO title fights, against shot old Mormeck (who hasn't fought since) and the delicate-chinned Enzo Maccarinelli. Hardly "undisputed"...

So you don't think much of Bute, Froch and Balzsay. Man, what are on? Are you Muhammad Ali posting under a new nick? Absolutely ridiculous!
