ARLINGTON, Texas - A much smaller Mexican champion scored a questionable technical knockout on the Canelo Alvarez-Billy Joe Saunders undercard Saturday night at AT&T Stadium. There is a picture of Billy Joe Saunders, where you can clearly see his right cheekbone has disappeared. His face was literally caving in, would have been ****** to carry on. Another right hand with the same power could have killed him. Idiots in this thread with their idiocy on full display, as per.Comment

Bjs said he would continue on if he had 2 broken eye sockets once. The man quit on his stool. He quit. Oh wait he’s a Brit. He “retired” on the stool. He can live another day to eat crumpets and drink hot tea.Comment

Yea, and karma got him. Finding glee in a man being seriously injured, to the point of possibly ending his career, is that not infinitely worse than calling someone else a quitter? What is the logic here?Comment

Rare to get hit with a right hand on your left cheek like that, but Saunders was bending over and present his face for the uppercut after missing a right. When you watch it, the part of the glove with the points of Canelo's knuckles is what made contact and there was no head snapping back because he was moving his head down. Another position and the head snapping back would have acted as a shock absorber and limited the damage. Sounds like 4 separate break and that who part of the face was just floating there. No way to continue with that injury, glad his corner saw it that way too.
Canelo has power, but he's more importantly got the accuracy to deliver that power. You might only get a couple times in a fight to land a punch that full on, most shots end up being glancing blows even when you see a head snap back. You have to think Canelo's future opponents will be thinking of what Canelo did to BJS, he's breaking faces with punches now. His mystique is going to grow from this. He's a killer.Comment

Billy joe showed that Canelo can be out boxed, but to outbox him for 12 rounds, it will have to be someone who also stays in shape year round, not someone who gets in shape just for an upcoming fight. And there aren't many fighters around today who are that dedicated. Canelo almost has a Rocky Marciano -like mentality when it comes to training. He stays in tip top shape. That's why he predicted that he'll get Billy late in the fight. He knows the other guy isn't training as hard as him year round, and will fade at some point in the fight. He knows this because he himself was lacking in the conditioning department earlier in his career. The knock on him used to be that he fades late, that his punch output was low because he gets gassed. No one says that anymore. Anyone who Canelo believes can match him in conditioning and can also box, he stays away from. Boo Boo Andrade and Charlo, specifically. The other fighters, he catches them at the right time, or he waits for signs of slippage b4 he fights them. His wins are the results of his talent, conditioning, and the ability of his team to know when to avoid certain fighters, while picking other guys at the right timeComment
