    It seems lost . . .

It seems lost to posters' on this forum that BJS is a natural LHW who cuts down to the middleweights to fight smaller men and Canelo is a natural welterweight.

I am not sure a decision win over Canelo is such a big deal; this guy has Gerald McCellen written all over him - "I'll just cut down in weight, rehydrate, and then beat smaller men.

I would like to see how he would fare with an old fashion same day weight-in.

P.S. I am not in anyway referencing the tragedy.

I don't agree Saunders is a natural LHW. He is a natural MW. He's just too lazy to make 160. Look at him today weigh in at 167 and he looks soft and with a proper cut he could drop those 7 pounds. Compare Kieran Conway at 154 and he looks almost bigger than Saunders at 167. That's a proper weight cut.

Canelo isn't a natural WW he was boxing at lighter weights because he turned pro at 15. His body was still growing. Even at his 155 catch-weight he was re-hydrating 15-20 pounds post weigh-in. He looked like a skeleton against Floyd who dragged him down to 152.

Saunders is the taller guy not the bigger guy here. He's just a lazy slob too unprofessional to maintain himself at the correct fighting weight.

We'll see tomorrow - I suspect tomorrow he will enter the ring above the LHW limit ( probably close to 177) but maybe I'm wrong.

If his weight is still under 172 then yes you're right he is just lazy and maybe not in the shape he is suppose to be.

      Interesting.

He doesn’t look soft at all, he looks strong and more filled out at the weight

he just looks like a middleweight/super middleweight.

considering he was fighting at 160 from age 18 or 19, I’d now at 31, those 8lbs look are probably difficult to get off healthily.

        definitely doesn’t look soft

A natural Welterweight? When he was 15 maybe.

Both are now fully mature physically and have reached an age where trying to play weigh games starts to be counter productive. It's almost a standard progression in North American boxing for dudes who start in their teens to go up a division or two in their early to mid 20s as they fill out and then another division at around age 30 when they went cut becomes more difficult. Both Canelo and Saunders are - at 30 and 31 years old - natural SMWs who will probably rehydrate to somewhere in the mid to high 170s.

It seems lost on you that dudes tend to gain mass and have more difficultly cutting weight as they get older. Seems more like you're just trying to cover bases in case Canelo somehow loses. I shouldn't worry. He won't.

That said I too am in favour of same day weigh-ins, in fact I'd go further and say they should step between the ropes at the same weigh limit... although of course this is probably impracticable since it'd lead to too many cancellations or postponements.

No I have no interest in the fight won't even watch. I'm a boxing history geek. Pretty much stopped watching in the 1990s.

I just don't like these day before weight-ins with a 10 pound rehydration limit. I believe it creates mismatches and puts fighters in danger.

I will up front say if Canelo comes in over 170 and BJS comes in under 175 then I am completely wrong.

But if Canelo comes in at 167 and BJ at 177 I'm going to think I m correct.

I never saw Canelo as a natural WW. If anything his best weight seems to be 168. He struggled to make weight at 154 and even 160.

Canelo was coming to the ring over 170 when he was fighting at JMW man (was reported at 172 vs Trout and 174 vs Angulo)... most of the top dudes at 154 do TBH. He actually probably doesn't come in now a whole lot heavier than he did when he was fighting at 155, he just rehydrates less.

We can certainly agree on the principle that we'd both rather see all fights contested between guys of equal weight however. In this case I doubt there'll be a huge amount in it.

He fought at 69kg in the amateurs and olympics which is 152 pounds. 69kg is classified as welterweight in the amateurs but closer to junior middle. He spent most of his career (up until 2017) at 160. Calling him a natural lhw doesn't make any sense.
