What I don't understand is all this "props to Margo for this and that".

The man is a disgusting cheat that loaded his ***n gloves. It is a disgrace that he is going to be allowed to fight again.

I was happy to see the good things that came to him at the time. I thought he was a hard-working fighter and he seemed like a good guy, so it was great to see him do well. Loading your gloves is just a horrible, horrible thing to do though. I could never support him in another fight and to be honest, I'm not sure how anyone else could either.

I really thought he should have fought Berto in a fight he would have easily won, or Clottey in a fight that he would have probably won by SD since Ghanaian fighters are never awarded close decisions. Even if Margarito had fought Williams (he would have lost), but it would have been a close UD loss, and not a one way ass whupping annihilation.
you know he already fought and beat clottey right? or are you talking about a rematch?

No if you think about it, fighting the best is the best thing you can do for your reputation.

If he had fought a nobody and lost to a nobody. People would have said he was overrated and therefore Cotto and everyone he beat would be too. But by loosing to the best he was just beaten by a better man. And still a force to be reckoned with.

I mean look at Judah.... its pretty much a given he will never amount to anything again and people think he is still going to make a come back and a real threat to any elite fighter. Despite him loosing his most important fights.

Don't get me wrong the cast-like substance definitely taints his achievements somewhat (keep in mind it was never determined to be cast substance, or a definite catch.) So it leaves a lot of things in the air.

Just like the steroid scandals have had on recent fighters.

exelent post. Some can argue that mentally Marg wasnt in that fight as well. He is still a threat. SSM did a great job that night but whos to say he could again. Its a toss up. we will have to see how Marg does in his return.

Too bad thats not really the topic of discussion though.

If you don't understand why the props are being given for consistently taking on the best,

then I don't know what else can be said to explain it.

People like to see champions take on the best possible opposition.

Margarito was calling out Shane for years. Shane didn't want the fight, but Shane got him at the right time. Marg is done though, the only thing he has goin for him, ironically, is his suspension. It's given him time to really heal. But I don't think we'll see that complete durable Margarito that we're use to seeing.

See my point is that all that is totally negated by the fact that he is a cheat and disgrace to the sport.

Do you see why this is the case?

If I give $50 to charity, but then beat the **** out of my wife, I am a ****.

I don't see how "fighting the best" means that Margarito is worthy of credit when it is considered that he did one of the lowest things that it is possible to do in the sport.

"Did Antonio Margarito make a huge mistake taking on Shane Mosley?"

                    That is the question.

                    Not,

"Do you approve of Margaritos wraps in the Mosley fight?"

If you'd like to start that thread, feel free to do it and you'll see many of the same people giving him props for taking on the best as champion, give him the proper stick he deserves for the hand wraps.

                    So in this particular discussion,

you have no point because even now, two posts in,

you still haven't answered the question.

I don't think Berto's team would've been too anxious to put him in there with Margarito.

A Clottey fight wouldn't have paid as much, and Margarito wanted the big money fights.

Remember the fight almost fell apart until HBO threw more money in the pot to make Margarito and his team happy.
