Comments Thread For: Andy Ruiz Gets More Than He Bargained For In Return Win Over Chris Arreola

By Corey Erdman - Sometime around 2006 or 2007, Chris Arreola recalls, he shared the ring with Andy Ruiz for the first time. Arreola was a heavyweight prospect on the rise, knocking out opponents on California club shows, on the verge of his big break on HBO. Even in a bountiful boxing market like California, heavyweights are always in need of bodies big enough to spar them, and there just so happened to be a teenager who had the requisite poundage on his frame in the gym that day.

The first time Ruiz gets hit by a serious punch from a younger opponent, it will spell the end for him.

His Joshua KO credit is over, his resume will show nothing more than that after he's finished with boxing.

Ruiz punch resistance is not the same with the weight loss.

The ghost of Arreola. The only good thing that I saw was the punch selection of Ruiz.

Come on, it's not like Ruiz moved to a lower weight class. He still has plenty of fat. No reason for his punch resistance to go down.

Besides, he was dropped by Joshua too. And he reacted in the same way. He was not hurt both times, and fought with energy trying to get even.

It was nice to see Ruiz making adjustments and not keeping rushing in all night. Looking forward to seeing him fight again - and if he can lose more weight, even better.

Im not saying Andy's punch resistance is less. Im saying, what ever he did in camp didn't improve his performance one bit. The speed and combos were always good, but he looked sharper at 284, his footwork is about the same. If Arreola had a 22 ft ring, he might have been able to play keep away too. Look at it this way. If Andy can't catch anybody, how is he going to get away?

Ruiz has fast hands ,slow feet and a decent chin but little head movement here. If he was to walk in like that with Wilder then that would be a very early night.

I think Ruiz must improve his footwork.

Ruiz looked nothing more than the number 15 ranked heavyweight he was before the Aj fight, against a 40 yr old Arreola that has never beaten anyone of note & if i read up correctly has never even been in the top 10 in the division.

What is it with these belt holder's & so called contenders of today boxing slow shot old men of the former generation & getting away with it while promoter's preaching we need more 5050 fights & putting this crap on? Whyte and Ruiz could have boxed each other & still could but they won't. They'll roll out Ortiz, Pov, Pulev, Takem, 11 loss or Wach for crying out loud.

I think we all underestimated Arreolla. Seems like having Goosen in his corner made a difference. Very solid performance by both guys.
