Ricky Hatton: The Comeback Plan is There

The truth is, Mayweather took that away from Hatton. Hatton sort of bet his house on that fight. He bet everything, he was the younger man, he could be great. Floyd had none of it and Hatton lost badly. And you know, once the egg is cracked...Hopefully Hatton will get in the gym right away because when he greeted Ali, he was pushing two bills if you ask me. I think the visit inspired Ricky and with the right mindset, he can recapture the fire he once had that made him world class. Hatton is good for boxing and I hope he gets it done. Big Hatton fights are allot of fun and are very exciting. There's only one Ricky Hatton and I'm glad he's returning. After all, he's only 30 and it's not like he looked faded against Pac, he just got caught napping on a shot and went to sleep.Comment

Nah, don't want to see my boy get hurt, I just enjoy his style and excitement he brings to the table. I've been a Hatton fan since the early Showtime fights and have stuck by him. I find him really down to earth and all things considered, he's not really taken allot of abuse. The Pac KO was devastating, but besides that, the rest was normal for boxing. Good thing his heart is allot better than his chin, otherwise he would stand up to abuse like that and go mentally silly like Ali. Every fighter takes a risk of brain injury when they get into the ring. Using McClellan as an example since you did, I will ask you how much accumulative abuse did he take in his career? Not a whole lot actually but that one fight did him in. That's not to say every fighter is succeptable or not, but parkinsons syndrome is not neccesarily related and if it were, there would be allot more fighters in Ali's condition. Take Gatti for another example. The guy was a human punching bag by trade but he had all his wits until his life ended. -The End.The visit from Ali should have inspired Ricky to remain inactive. In a recent interview Hatton stated that Ali's condition was the 'exception' and not the rule. Gerald, Meldrick, Norris and the ghost of Jerry Quarry may have a list of some other 'exceptions' for him to consider.
Ricky has a beautiful family and money to spare. Any ring return would be based on pride, greed or both. Diaz would fight him in a heartbeat. Hatton could defeat him on paper, but just his required fifty plus pound weight loss would drain him dry. Should he get past a Diaz challange, the line up beyond Juan is too well equipted for him to threaten. There are not a large number of fans outside of the U.K. yearning to see this young man get back in the saddle again and possibly get seriously hurt.Comment

Maybe you are right but I tend to lean toward the hunger leaving when he had become the man @ 140. He was actually competitive with Floyd for the first 6 rounds or so, in my opinion. I just think the desire was lost a bit before that fight. I like to think maybe he can find a way to recapture that somehow. Personally, I think kinda like Calzaghe does. I get hit and immediately have to fire back out of competitive instinct and forget about backing down or running. Maybe that's heart or determination, but either way, Ricky had that in the Tszyu fight. Otherwise he would not have beat the man. In my opinion, that was a peak Hatton and if anything took his fire away, it was Tszyu. If nothing else, it took some of his punch resistance.Comment
