Sweet Pea encouraged punches from his opponent and dodged them very effectively. Floyd nullifies offense and reduces the punch output of his opponent. Clearly different but I don't think "basic" is the best description of Floyd's defense.
Theirs even a post here on the first page where they say he copied the pull counters and shoulder roll

      I didn't see that. I haven't noticed that myself.

Canelo used to be a passive counter-puncher. He rarely walked forward.

Guess what he is now? He fights EXACTLY like how Floyd fought him against bigger men.
Oh yea ur EXACTLY right cause Floyd threw some really hard body punches and tried to knock Canelo out in that fight JUST like Canelo tries to do against bigger guys.

Never heard of this before. The only thing that did happen was that he tried to box the master boxer and lost.

Canelo obviously took some parts of Floyd game and made it his own but they don’t fight alike.

And Floyd probably has the least “basic” defense ever. Atleast one of them.

Canelo doesn't do none of that he stays in front of u and slips all ur punches. Both their offense is also different people need to stop acting like Floyd invented the shoulder roll an pull counters an what not. Just wanted to know what the guys that say he copied him mean by it.

It would be rather IGNORANT not to take little things from the Greats before you honestly. Not sure why fans would even try to make it some sort of bad thing to take certain things from Mayweather all because of their own personal feelings towards him I guess.

Watch him box BEFORE he fought Mayweather compared to now. Nothing wrong with learning something new that works.

Well 1st Gif shows that Canelo doesn't always "Just Stand On Front Of His Opponent" he can move very well actually, second gif does show that yeah indeed he is really good at staying in the pocket and slip punches as mentioned

I would say Canelo does a good job if mixing things up based on WHO HE IS FIGHTING! He was on his backfoot at times vs GGG, wasn't GGG and Abel Sanchez crying and accusing Canelo of Running after that 1st Fight

                      Ijt87P6.gif

Of course he is not Mayweather off the Backfoot nobody is
