Comments Thread For: Conor Benn Blows Out Samuel Vargas in One Round

Vargas' head snapped back from the punches and he is partly to blame for not taking a knee, holding, or trying to look more involved in the fight, but yeah... the fight was stopped and Vargas looked more than capable of continuing to fight. My main issue is that in stoppages like these there's usually no attempt at all from the referee to actually evaluate whether or not the fighter is capable of continuing to fight. I mean, Tyson Fury gets a sobriety test here in the US in the last round of a fight after getting knocked down hard, and in the UK the fights get stopped in the first round if your head is snapped back while you're against the ropes. -
I think peoples main gripe with this is consistency.
Josh Warrington got dropped hard several times, hurt on a dozen occasions and nearly got beaten to death and it wasn't stopped yet everytime a Brit rocks/stuns someone they flurry and the ref jumps in.
Vargas wasn't even badly hurt just taken back a bit by the speed of the shots imo

Maybe a standing count would of been best, but Vargas didn't do anything, not a bad stoppage
looking forward to Benns next fight

Come on Frank Warren, I like you generally but now you all are bull ****ting people caling out all these dead horses, Broner, Khan that’s weak as hell. Crawford would look to put him in check, Porter will bully him to death, Spence would tame him and Boots would give him speed, power and craftsmanship bring him to to USA!Leave a comment:

Come on, that was a premature stoppage.
Vargas is a tough guy. At least let him go down, and even after that give him a chance to show if he can come back or not.
if this guy has been the ref for McClellan vs Benn the fight would have been over after Benn got knocked through the ropes in the first round.Leave a comment:

Easy to say afterwards though
his head was like a pinball and not throwing back.
if it’d had gone 10 seconds more and he ended up on the floor, people would say it’s a late stoppage when his head was already getting bounced around
Not an easy decision to make at the time I think.Leave a comment:

Yes he is, my criticism is for the referee, Benn did what he needed to do and Vargas should have taken a knee or something to make sure he didn't give the impression of being too hurt to fight back.Leave a comment:
