Boxing is dead in The UK.

No joke! I use to read this all the time on Boxing Scene and I thought it was a load of rubbish, people trying to make a tread to be argumentative. The Truth is though it is in the UK. I can tell you the name of half the players in the Premier-League and who they are playing next. I couldn’t do that without boxing though. I mean in the daily newspapers there is like 20 pages of football and about once a week one page on boxing. This week is was on Muhammad Ali and Ricky Hatton in Manchester.

To tell the truth Boxing Scene is the only place I can get boxing news in the UK. There is no media coverage what so ever. Sky Sports don’t even advertise fights any more. I don’t even know last time ITV or the BBC showed a fight or watched boxing for that matter.

In terms of quality of fighters and boxing match ups it’s great. Can the average person tell you who and when these are fighting? I say not. I don’t even know when Mayweather and Juan Manuel Marquez are fighting, yet alone what channel to be frank.

For instance I know when UFC is on because Bravo/ESPN is always advertising it. Even Sky Sports is starting to.

I don’t have time for Boxing Scene no more or look it up on Boxrec. So how am I meant to be an avid fan? What I need is it for me to pick the paper up at work a read it there. That is were your problem and mine lies there. There is no coverage what so ever. I know there are amazingly talented fighters out there and some epic fight. No one ever knows about them tho!

As we were saying in another topic the other day, Darts and Snooker are by far more popular than Boxing.

Boxing is about as popular as rowing and cycling.

Exactly. Also I could buy boxing mothly but why would I waste a £5 on it when it's like 3 pages thick.

This thread isn't about if we have champions or not because I know we have class fighters.

It's been like that for 10 years in the USA.

You guys still have a boxing page in your newspapers? Has the US had that since like the 80s?

It's funny to think even though Boxing is less popular then fat men throwing darts at a board, we still produce such talent.

Because having FNF and WNF means it's not popular?

We only get one card a month, you get it twice a week.

Haha, you limeys make fun of the NFL, yet your inbred country fosters darts and snooker over boxing. Silly limeys, leave the real sports to real men.
