Comments Thread For: Reynoso: Canelo's Fight With Billy Joe Saunders Will Be Really Complicated

MIAMI GARDENS, Florida - After completing a predictable pummeling of Avni Yildirim, Canelo Alvarez and his trainer, Eddy Reynoso, took little time off before they went right back to work to prepare for what figures to be a much more difficult fight.

When fighters and their trainers complement their opponent it means they have nothing to fear and are just trying to hype it up.

Canelo's toughest fights (May-Lara) have been against fighters that use their legs well. Believe it or not BJ can box. Canelo will have flashbacks of those fights in this one.

Even if that were true it still makes more sense for Canelo or anyone else to train as if every opponent is a threat. Also, Canelo has had difficulty with movers so I’m looking forward to the style matchup if nothing else.

Saunders is obviously skilled but still undecided on his ability to adjust. His biggest wins vs Eubank, Lee he piled up rounds early so when they came on strong later he could afford to play it safe and lose rounds. In the fights where he looked bad against lesser opposition like vs Akavov I don't recall him figuring guys out after a bad start, he either struggles vs C level fighters all night or not at all.

Can see a close first 6 rounds and then Canelo takes over

Saunders is quite slick, maybe Plant is a bit slicker but Saunders has a bit more power. His performances have varied, with some fights he hasn't looked good enough to have a chance against Canelo.

He's sure to be competitive, but perhaps not the threat of a Benavidez or Charlo, although an aggressive fighter like Benavidez suits Canelo more.

Yeah, I can see Saunders being competitive. As has been pointed out, Canelo has difficulties with both Lara and Trout however, imo, he is a much mproved fighter these days - in part because he took those difficult fights.

Whilst Saunders is a southpaw with skills, his fights at 168 have been rather underwhelming.
