Discuss the difference in execution between Cotto and Mosley against Margarito

Here we have 2 fighters that fought Margarito: Miguel Cotto and Shane Mosley.

One was dominated and destroyed by Margarito and the other dominated and destroyed Margarito. But why?

This isn't a thread to prove who's the better fighter. Anyone that comes in here pulling ANY type of triangle theory BS is practically admitting they know **** about boxing and should get the **** out of their little sister's room and let her use the computer to finish her report on butterfly metamorphosis.

    Cotto vs. Margarito

Cotto started off the fight strong, effectively using the ring to box on his back foot. He would land combinations and move out the way after Margarito would pause during the punches. This was the way the fight went for most of the first half. Cotto's strategic punching and movement nulled anything Margarito was trying to do offensively.

But eventually, the pressure from Margarito began to wear on Cotto and slowly, Cotto began hangin on the ropes attempting to SLIP punches in a stationary position. His stamina just wasn't enough to keep mobile and away from the trouble pockets. Margarito finally was catching him, chipping away at Cotto's durability.

    Mosley vs. Margarito

Right off the bat, Mosley went power to power with Margarito. It seemed like almost every punch Mosley threw was a power punch. When Margo got close, he would crowd him or turn him to prevent him from going to work. Mosley's strategy wasn't too complex or complicated. Stick HARD and move. Like ****m asked for, he "swam without getting wet".

Now the difference I feel was that Mosley went AT Margo with power and then avoided the danger by clinching or side stepping where as Cotto let Margo come to him landing hard shots, but not the kind of shots you get full leverage on when you're going forward. Mosley also had the stamina to keep repeating his offensive attacks where as Cotto can't keep a powerful pace a whole 12 rounds.

Is Mosley more powerful than Cotto? I don't think so, but he used his power more intelligently. The difference is, cotto used his power to KEEP Margarito away where as Mosley used his to PUT Margarito away.

It was nothing Mosley did, it was that Margarito didn't train for the fight properly and took Choogar lightly.

    A rematch will be a Margarito/Clottey type U.D.

Margarito partied like a madman after the Cotto fight and didn't even want the Mosley fight but took it cuz' HBO threw more money at him.

Mosley went to the body a bit better, but a focused Tony would've laughed off his puny body shots.

Mosley smothered him while Cotto laid on the ropes. It's actually that simple. When Margarito started to close the distance, Mosley grabbed him and turned him around. He kept the fight in the middle of the ring and he trusts his chin enough to go to war with him, and his superior hand speed and tighter punches enabled him to land first.

Cotto was going backwards all fight, he hit him with a lot of punches, but he didn't have his full force behind them.

It's the difference between a wily old vet and a stubborn up and comer.

Mosley was just so explosive in that fight. Just watching the last 2 rounds of that fight, he seemed as fresh as if the fight had just started. He broke Marg's will like Marg broke Cotto's.

Cotto was trying to box & move away after landing, but Margarito just waited until Cotto stopped throwing to start his own assault!!Cotto doesn't fight going backwards well & Margarito proved that!!

Mosley stayed on the offesive throughout!!Margarito was waiting for Sugar to stop throwing to launch his offensive, but Sugar wasn't having it & kept on throwing!!

Do you guys realize just how much of a bad ass Tony is?

Do you realize that he oozes machismo???

              nut huggers..

              @ TS

Mosley Planted his feet and threw hard power shots
              Went to the body early
Clenched rather then backing off and wasting energy like Cotto
This also Crowded Margs who couldn't do anything
Has a better chin then Cotto too (not that he got hit)

I agree im not sure who has more power but Cotto didn't plant his feet at all he was on the back foot throught out wasting energy and not going to the body.

If he's so macho why did he let his trainer take the fall for the plaster deal and acted like he had no idea?.. That's ***** made ****.. If he's so macho why did he try to cheat against a 37 year old?

Margarito cannot beat Top American fighters.
