  • Comments Thread For: Canelo: I Don't Care About Critics Of Yildirim Fight; They'll...

By Keith Idec - MIAMI - Canelo Alvarez hasn't paid much mind to critics complaining about him fighting Avni Yildirim on Saturday night. After hearing and reading some of their dismissive assessments of his dominant win against Callum Smith, Alvarez realizes there is a faction of fans and media he'll never be able to satisfy. Alvarez's adversaries have taken issue with perhaps the best boxer in the sport, pound-for-pound, opposing such a huge underdog...

Boilerplate underdog article. Canelo looks like a Neanderthal in that picture though. Good stuff.

This is a throw away fight for Canelo fans and an easy money making event for the sanctioning organizations, that is for sure. But, not everything has to be a war. After a year of only the bare bones sporting events, having boxing's biggest star fight twice in such a short period of time to get the sport in the limelight is a win. If he takes a fight with Saunders next then no one will care.

Anything can happen for sure. Just look at warrington, Kelly and Berchelt, all overlooking their opponent by the look of it. What if canelo is just cruising and gets shocked?

Eh. I would like to think Canelo knows that fans can be disinterested in a fight that's unappealing just cuz it's a bs fight without not being appreciative of him &/or his overall career.

And sh^t to most of us that last fight was a bs fight too so this isn't a serious fight, bs fight strategy in play. This is back to back bs fights, regardless of the ABC reasons this specific fight is happening.

It's another bs fight just like his last couple of fights.

Yildrin is Canelo's mandatory challenger, and hopefully Canelo's next fight after Yildrin is Saunders.
I believe the fans would appreciate that fight.

These guys are the ones you gotta be careful for expect Ylidrim to come out swinging hoping to land something

Canelo is facing a mandatory for the first time in his entire career after dropping multiple titles instead of facing past mandatories and the guy is a 50-1 underdog. The belief that Smith was #1 at 168 was really just a matter of the super 6 tournament from years ago as the reality is Smith got worked over by Ryder and clearly wouldn’t have beaten several other boxers in or around that weight class. So of course some fans aren’t going to be happy. By that same token, his fans wouldn’t give a damn if canelo gave Amir khan a rematch, they’d still find a way to justify it the way they do everything else.
