Well it's the whole premise of wrestling, really - one watches the programming not only to see their favourite personalities in action, but to watch the motormouths do their thing as well (and hopefully lose). Boxing doesn't really have that effect, other than when people watch an event in the hope that Mayweather would lose. It's a very rare case.
I myself was really keen to see what Mayweather would do and say on RAW, and it certainly upped my interest in the show (which I would've watched anyway, since I'm a WWE fan), but I found the whole thing to be a total let-down. Everything he said and did sounded more scripted than even some of the newbie wrestlers cutting their first promos!
