The buck didn’t stop there. Williams’ promoter Dan Goossen was actually trying to get Williams in the ring with Bernard Hopkins, a light heavyweight.

Despite his best efforts, Goossen has been unsuccessful with enticing the big names, like Shane Mosley and Hopkins, to accept a fight with Williams. "

And his camp then specified Hopkins would have to come in at 165.

Asking fighters to come in weight drained makes boxing into a circus act and not a sport, IMO. You may as well claim you can run 100m faster than Usain Bolt, provided he ties his legs together. It's just bull****. If Williams doesn't think he can be competitive against a Light Heavyweight at his own weight then he shouldn't fight against Light Heavyweights. It's just pathetic.

And although 168 would certainly be a lot better than 165, even 170 is a big drop on 175, and 175 is Hopkins' weight class. Hopkins says he can drop 5 pounds max without being weight drained; and to ask him to drop any further than that is just disrespectful, IMO, and as I say, is treating boxing as a circus act instead of a sport. Even 168 is a 7lb drop on the weight class Hopkins fights in, not a 2lb drop.

exactly my point. i was referring to this time around though, after the pavlik fight fell through. it was hopkins who then jumped into the mix.....

but let's go with the before....if williams and co. originally challenged hopkins before, but specified at 165, it makes no sense for hopkins to come out now, challenge williams, and say "only at 170..."

if the 165 is too low, which i agree it probably will be, then make a counter offer of 168 or so, that is if you're serious about making the fight. if williams and co. has already stated they wouldn't fight at 170 before, makes no sense to come out and challenge them at 170 now.

Are you saying that Floyd said he could not get down to 144 without being weight drained? If so, please provide a link.

But Bernard can wait the rest of the year if he isn't willing to fight Williams under that reasonable offer. People accuse him of ducking Adamek and Dawson to fight Williams, when I think that is nonsense. Hopkins could use this fight to knock some ring rust off. And on top of that I view Paul Williams as the most dangerous out of the three.

Adamek is tough, but straightforward and Hopkins would exploit that. Dawson has questionable stamina and he takes breaks and lets the other opponent out work him. He would fight at Bernard's pace where as Williams would not. I don't know how Williams would be able to deal with B-Hop's rough house tactics though. Hopkins would have some long arms to be able to tie up, and that would be something that he would enjoy. Lol. I could see fights against Dawson or Williams becoming clinch fests. Because it seems like that always happens when B-Hop fights a Southpaw. Adamek would be big and that might ware Bernard out when it came to trying to tie him up on the inside. That is one luxury that Bernard may not be able to enjoy against Adamek.
JMM should get a ton of credit if he beats Floyd at 147. Same with Williams. He should get all the credit in the world if he beats Bernard at 170.

Well if I were a boxer and someone credible called me out but specified a weight I wasn't willing to go to, and didn't think I could go to without being weight drained, I would say "I'm happy to fight him, but not at that weight". The way I see it, if Hopkins doesn't think he can get below 170 (which is already way below his weight class) without being weight drained, then they shouldn't even think about trying to make a fight below that weight.

And this fight is a example of it.

beside you, Flawless, Burner and el platano, paul Williams doenst have any fans, plus the fact that Dzinziruk is the champ and have a solid fan base in germany, the fight would be bigger in germany, money wise.

            This is not rocket science!!!!!!
